My husband Barry is running for Congress, and late last night he had a diary up here about being on the frontline of the Choice issue in campaigns that I thought was great and it was fun to watch happen in person. Check it out here if you want.
But this is about a couple of other things. First, Barry is putting the following open letter out in brief response to Congressman Pence’s Famous Immigration Plan, “THE PENCE PLAN Article and column from the Muncie Star Press.
Here’s Barry’s letter to Mike;
An open letter to Mr. Mike Pence,
Mr. Pence you are touting what you call “The Pence Plan” for dealing with
the illegal immigration situation in our country. With all due respect, isn’t this “Pence Plan” more of a Political Tool than
a real solution?Isn’t the “Pence Plan” really the “Bush Plan” with multi-syllable words?
If the “Pence Plan” is really a proposed solution, please answer just a few
quick questions; You say in your plan that the first thing we must do is secure our borders
before anything else is done, but Sir, saying it does not make it so. How
do you plan to do this and how will it be paid for?If this is a real plan, and if this is a real solution, then shouldn’t it
contain more than just a statement that you want to secure the borders?
Shouldn’t you be able to tell us what you propose to do to make this happen?I humbly assert that you should, and until you do, how can you think people
will take you seriously? People know a Political Tool when they see one.Sir, you have given us a speech not a plan, and you have wasted our time
once again.Barry Welsh
Democratic Congressional Candidate
Is it too much??
Now off topic, I’d like to speak about something else…
I have to say that being in the “thick of things” is an eye opening experience that I don’t think people see even the most politically aware folks, until you are a candidate or a family member of a candidate, I don’t think people see what goes on. I’ve seen the very best of people and I’ve unfortunately seen the very worst of people. There have been a lot of surprises good and bad but overall I would say things are good. This experience has shown how hard Barry works, how committed he has been to the people, the truth and his word. I think what touches me most is when I see how many people Barry and the campaign touch; there have been people who have heard of Barry or heard him speak that have put their hopes in him. It’s been both intimidating and inspiring at the same time, to see the different reactions and opinions that surface where ever Barry goes. I can tell you it’s certainly not dull and it’s always interesting.
I sure hope Barry wins this race, I know he would serve the interests of our people and not his own interests. I know he would serve the people as well as take their trust seriously, truly representing this district but also the interests of this country.
Don’t be so quick to write him off, he’s a force to be reckoned with and he’ll do not a good job but an excellent job in Washington if elected.
Kudos to my husband!
Thank you for taking the time to read this diary; it’s not vetted through Barry’s campaign. It’s my personal perspective of a campaign close up.
Sherri Welsh
Hi Sherri, so good to see ya again…I am glad you posted the open letter. Your husband nailed it on the head. So much is spoken of just rhetoric and not anything that is of substance. Yes we voters are not fools for the most part unless you are the ones voting for the bush plans of thing…and look at what that has gotten us so far.
Thanks for coming back and do not be a stranger here. It is always good to see ya and Barry. hugs..
I’m involved in my first county-wide campaign, having survived 3 previous elections on the district and township level, so I have enormous respect for all of you who are going person to person on the congressional district scale. I can’t imagine having the energy it takes to cover 19 counties!
I think we (Indiana Democrats) have a really good shot at taking several seats this time and I sincerely hope Barry is one of those. We’re working hard down south to turn this end of the state blue for a change. Here in the 9th, Baron and Betty Hill are also making more person to person contacts this time. I had the honor of introducing him around to working folks and business owners in our little town not long ago.
Our county fair begins next Sunday and you can bet I’ll be out there every night talking with people and listening to their gripes just as you are.
Keep it up – I’m rootin’ for you;-)
Hey ID, so good to see you out and about today…hope you and Stef are doing well. Good to know you are still politicking..keep me up to date on things.
