that at this point in their lives, the in-laws don’t need anything else to dust, polish, or figure out where the hell to store it. And they’ve both got enough books in their to-read stacks to last till they make it to the Grand Library in the Sky, and as for CDs, we came across 25 that had never even been opened when I helped my mom-in-law transfer them to their new CD cabinet (thus reclaiming her desk drawers).
We’ll probably get a few small things for them for Christmas this year (I love shopping for earrings for my mom-in-law), but the major gift will probably be additional contributions to charity. And my sister has already decided no more family gift exchanges, now that Mom’s gone — I may at least send family gifts to the nieces that are married, and will be sending the ones still in college checks. If nothing else, it means I’m off the hook for a lot of wrapping…the spouse and I will probably go crazy on each other for once. 🙂
Unfortunately I am still under the ‘flu weather’ and cannot dance tonight no matter how much any one begs. Please! I will watch the goings on from the sidelines and drink my cup of cammomile tea. LOL
Maybe have a quite conversation over in the corner, “far from the maddening crowd”.
Poor Diane, hope you feel better! I was thinking about the shingles and the herpes virus as well (aren’t those two connected to the chicken pox virus as well?) Anyways, I read somewhere here I think Lorraines work that the FDA was holding on to a vaccination for cervical herpes (part of the strain)
It angers me that they won’t help diminish suffering for people. So many ailments that could be lessened or done away with if only scientists were “allowed” to creat cures.
Compassionate care… it’s a wish for us all.
Take care!!!! xoxoxo
When I’m urpy in the tummy Peppermint tea with clover honey makes me feel a bit better. 🙂
At least the achy flu, not the tummy variety: orange juice and 7-up over ice. It’s refreshing, gets the fluids in that most folks recommend, and has at least some Vitamin C, and other good stuff too.
Sending you healing vibes, Diane — my energy seems to be actually coming back; we got out and did some grocery shopping today, and will be going out to pick up a few more things as soon as Countdown is over; have to keep an eye on the imaginary 2nd husband. 🙂
Oooohhh thank you guys, cali, manee and you DJ, you are so sweet, wasn’t trying to get the old sympathy wagon going, but hereabouts it also seems to pull up when a person is feeling down.
One of the great things about the boo tribe!
It seems a lot of people are getting the going back to school flu bug, something I always looked forward to each year for the 30 + years I had school age children. I thought after awhile I had them all, but no, it seems there are new ones…
Yes shingles is related to chicken pox and anyone who has had them can get shingles in later years usually late 40’s early 50’s. and yes I hate that treatments are available and not allowed.
I’ve got a 15% flu or cold that I caught moments after the first sypmtoms days ago, shock-n-awing it with vitamin C carpetbombing. But it’s been simmering away for a week or so imposing an hour nap on me randomly through the day, and goofy dreams at night.
We had red-snapper-&-chicken stroganoff tonight, followed by a productive nap. It feels like time for a green tea now for the next round of vitamin C. At least I was able to do some shipping today.
I was just ready to join the discussion on digital cameras and rocks in the last cafe when it closed. Sooooo…
I bought my first digital camera for a trip to Sedona last week. Its a Canon PowerShot SD400. Given that I know NOTHING about photography – it worked pretty well for me. Check out one of my pictures of a “rock.”
Yes, and thanks to you dada for pointing me to the diary at My Left Wing a few weeks ago on HTML 101. I now know how to post pictures here, so you’re likely to see more than is tasteful from me. After all, I need to come up with something to do with all the pics I’ll be taking!!
I really need to take a mental-health day from work and drive up to Sedona for a weekend. They have amazing rock formations and the whole area radiates a calmness that I could certainly use nowadays. Thx for sharing NL!
I really loved ALL of the artwork in the area. Both Mother Nature’s handiwork as well as the human-made variety.
But I have to admit that it was a rather surreal time to be there. I couldn’t help but watch the news and check the blogs to keep up on what was happening in the Gulf Coast. I’d have myself a cry in the morning and then go take in all of the beauty. I guess it helped my peace of mind to be there – but I might need to go back sometime and experience the place without all of the distractions.
Ask questions if you want…I’ll answer if I can…since Damnit Janet brought this up in the earlier diary…
On behalf of the Board of Buyblue.org I’d like to invite everyone over to see the new website design and layout. Our President announced this via a DailyKos diary yesterday…where he explained some of the details and changes and new ratings.
Registered yesterday after the kos-diary. Will peek around a bit. Great to see you so involved in this. We all need to get educated and conscious about buying blue.
Thanks, SallyCat. I just looked at buyblue for the first time in awhile and I see you all have done tons of work. The ratings dealie is great and has lots of potential. I like the look of the site — nice restful blue!
I just read the two Roberts confirmation threads and want to say a big thank you to Catnip and Brinnaine and everybody else who posted on the threads. I could not watch but so glad to have their transcribing and comments. 4s all round!!!
It’s been a busy couple of weeks with a new work project, and I haven’t been able to spend much time online. This has been very positive for my mental health, although I do miss reading the great diaries which seem to be coming faster and furiouser here at BooTrib these days. (Not enough time in the evenings to read them all!)
I haven’t been able to play/work in the garden these days either. Here’s a couple photos I took a few days ago … on 9.28 of all dates :o( …
Another bee. I think my garden has contributed to the production of a million jars of honey.
Green bug ::looking around for Janet Strange:: on garlic chive flowers.
Hmm … not sure about that Man E! You did mention that you were at a wedding this past w/e. I’m sure you’ve got some ‘trouble’ stories to tell … ;^)
Great job on the Cafes today. I just got finished reading down to the bottom of the earlier one, when you posted that you were closing it up. You’re an awesome host.
glad to have YOU here olivia! Bud is doing good, he was his excessively-lazy self all weekend; although I didn’t get home until after the sun rose on Sunday O:-)
the pretzels, they are FANTASTIC! It is always a stop of mine when I’m in the district. The location I linked to in the diary is right next door to Union Station on Capitol Hill. (the beer is great too!)
I was away for a while and can’t remember who said they were planning to come to demonstration in San Francisco on Sep. 24. I know some Bay Areans are going to Washington. Was it DamnitJanet? CaliScribe? Shall we march?
will be in SF on the 24th, resplendent in our BooTrib shirts (if they get here in time).
Heard a spot on 960 The Quake; march is scheduled to start about noon at Dolores Park. We plan to take CalTrain up, then Muni it over; we only drive in San Francisco if it’s a dire emergency.
Keep your eyes peeled for us…we may have to head back to the Peninsula relatively early depending on possible plans with his folks, but if not maybe we can meet for a post-march beverage? 🙂
Hi Scribe! A post-parade drink sounds good though I may be heading out of town later as well. When the day is closer we can figure out how/where to meet. Maybe one of the corners at Dolores Park… I’ll scope it out.
I just saw your Sep. 24 diary, sorry I missed it before. I know there are some other NorCalians around here so I hope to see more BooShirts in my fair city that day.
Evening all! Nice to see so many hangin’ loose as we would say on Kauai! Sure do miss my island home these days. It is so beautiful and peaceful.
Sedona is a magnificent place to recharge and get centered and balanced. I was there many years ago for a benefit concert for a school out there with Melissa Etheridge, Jackson Brown and others. It was a beautiful outdoor Redrock type venue. The day after the concert the ex and I went hiking. I climbed up a rock and to my surprise on the top of this plateau was a giant Indian Medicine wheel made with rocks. It brought me to my knees and gave me such a sense of peace. What I would give for that feeling now.
Diane feel better. NOW! DC Marchers I walk with you in spirit. San Diegan area folks would love to meetup on the 24th here for our march at 6th and Laurel in Balboa Park at 2pm. Any takers? Just witnessed a magnificent sunset, all pink and orange and white puffy clouds, a real masterpiece right from my very own balcony looking into the Pacific. Its a rough job but someone has to do it.
Can I just drown my sorrows here tonight…I have a slight glitch (ah, make that 2 glitches) in my DC plans…My plans for who will take my boys for the weekend of the 24th are falling apart. I am so bummed…I’ve really been looking forward to this…crap.
Bartender, how about a nice big ol’ bottle of Chimay Ale?
you would have the means to drop them off down here in Austin on your way (forgive me, I’ve forgotten where you are)? I’d be thrilled to have ’em — so would MY boys!
😉
You are so sweet to offer! And I bet all the boys (mine are 10 and 13) would love it! But, I’m up here in the Philly burbs…
They have bravely volunteered to go to DC with me so I don’t have to miss out, but that just creates a new problem with where to stay…I just checked out hotel rooms, and my brief exploration was pretty unsuccessful, to say the least. Hopefully I’ll have a flash of brilliance in the morning and figure something out…?? 🙂
Atlantic coast. I can feel the heat of the day brewing for later on.
I definitely don’t see such clouds out here over water. 2/3 of the year the water’s too cold to even smell. That’s very odd coming from Lake Erie–and not because of pollution, just because the water’s warm enough for much of the year that you can smell the moisture well inland if there’s a lake breeze.
This reminds me of my #0 all time pet peeve of American entertainment. Scenes are filmed in any order, any time they can be worked in for reasons of logistics. The result is that there’s almost never a 5 minute span in American entertainment when the weather progresses naturally. That, plus the addiction to filming during the hour just after sunrise and just before sundown make most movies & tv very offputting for me given my connection to the weather.
It was a great day in the Froggy Bottom Cafe, thank you to everyone for sharing your pix, your stories, and your laughs. See you all on the flipside of the night.
Let your hair down and enjoy the evening!
ackkk I gotta get my cut before that weekend! My hair that is. 🙂 On my head. LOL
Thanks for the smiles today Man Eegee!
likewise, DJ. Did I mention that you had an audience earlier?
The spouse and I will add it to our list next time we make it to DC…
Just found out another reason it’s good I’m not heading for DC — my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary.
Here’s their gift…
Cali, that’s one hell-of-a cool gift…KUDOS!…You made me smile today. :{)
Peace

those myself, ManEE — they sound yummy! 🙂

A bunch of us were outraged on November 3, 2004 and via diaries and email worked out the details of buyblue.org by December….
I have been involved since that first diary (which is linked on the buyblue.org site)
For happy hour purposes….type in beer or wine or your favorite spirit….in the search window…see if you are drinking a red or blue beverage.
Cheers to Man Eegee for taking us from coffee to cocktails!

i LOVE the James Madison quote, librarylil!
Major E-Props to catnip and brinnainne! (maybe they’ll stop into the lounge, hint hint, wink wink) 😀
I had to bail — I may be able to do some more tomorrow, but what I saw today was just enough to make me want to throw shoes…..but thanks in any case!!

thx for the pix, as always olivia! the ‘green bug’ looks like a troublemaker, not that I would know anything about trouble.

O:-) … interesting. I didn’t realize that angels stayed out dancing all night!
it’s the only way we can stay sane without smiting all the wingnuts that cross our paths.
… then Man E, ’cause we want you to stay sane, although smiting wingnuts doesn’t sound too bad … :^)
Life’s short, right? Grab the fun and rejoice while you can. Besides, you’re a youngster if I recall, so you can still handle the all-nighters.
Capitol City looks like a great place- I had to go feed myself after looking at their menu.

we will be there — can’t pass up those GB Garlic Fries!

I know yu’ll figure something out!! How many rooms did shycat get for you all? And don’t I recall someone in Baltimore offering a place at one point?
I even poured it into an ice-chilled glass for ya, CabinGirl
