Hope you have a wonderful weekend planned. I am going back for more campaign training today. Yesterday was great. We saw a presentation on the difference between message and issue and then broke into groups and discussed canvassing(blockwalking), id and then broke into groups and designed a commercial based on a situation. We find out this am which group gets 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. I feel sure my group will be in the top 3.
It’s too hot. So, I thought I’d come in here and see what’s going on.
I need to get some sleep at some point because we have tickets for the neighborhood theater today. I’ll enjoy the air conditioning but if I fall asleep during the performance it’ll be an expensive nap (not to mention rude to the performers).
Yeah, and it’s not like it’s a big Broadway style theater where I could hide safely back in row QQQ and only annoy the people around me when I snore. I think there are only about 8 rows of seats, and the theater seats maybe 200 total, if that.
Yeah I’m not sure if I can make it. I’d like to though. I’ll let you know… but I know there will be MANY more opportunities to hook up with you and your family.
Shows how much I know before I’ve had breakfast. Today we’re going to see the local Gilbert and Sullivan company do “Pirates of Penzance.” “Smoke On The Mountain” is in a couple of weeks.
It’s in a much bigger theater, but I still don’t think I can get away with sleeping my way through it, since we’re going to be front row center. You don’t want to hack off community theater actors with swords. (Besides, I still remember how upset I was a few years ago when they brought over a British troupe to perform Iolanthe and some yoyo front and center decided the middle of the first act would be a good time to take a call on his cell phone.)
Pretty good. I am a little sleepy since Bette did not sleep well last night and kept waking me up but am raring to go today for the campaign camp. LOL How about you?
Finally managed to get some sleep. Now it’s time to eat breakfast and shower for at least the first time today. Given how hot it’s supposed to be I may be hosing off again.
Just the usual — assuming the weather clears up (it’s been raining), we’ll go for a bike ride. And we’ll go to the grocery store, and probably the library.
I’ve always felt trips to the grocery store to be the high point of a boring day. Don’t know why, but grocery shopping always leaves me in a good mood.
That is of course, until I have to put everything away. 🙂
I was going to say ‘at least in terms of grocery shopping’ but in a moment of either early morning clarity or early morning sappiness I decided that this is generally true.
I finally got some sleep but I’m not sure about that nap. One of my toddler granddaughters came over to play so I’m not sure how conducive to sleeping her presence is going to be.
well its pouring here and i was out at 7am to do all the bedspreads in the ginormous laundramat washer.
the place was packed.
and people brought their dogs.
i have a million errands to run and i need a pedicure before surgery on wed so i have pretty toes in the operating room…plus the news sucks so im staying away from it the rest of the weekend.
we missed them again Cabin Girl. Have fun with the housework. Looks like it’s going to be hot and rainy – my favorite combo.
And, god, is my throat sore. I couldn’t get an appt. until next week. They were very helpful of course by saying if it was an emergency I should go to the ER. :/
We have a doctor who actually will meet us at the office before he goes and does his hospital rounds if it’s a real problem and it happens on a day he doesn’t have office hours. I wish there were more like that.
When did your throat get sore? 90% of sore throats are actually viral, you know.
My throat has actually been chronically sore for 3 or 4 MONTHS, always on the right side. But it got acutely sore along with the cough and burning lungs. Yay!
I don’t know. Even the PA (which I prefer) and the nurse practitioner were full.
And Mr. Nature is trying to find a new doc and when he called they said they would have to “accept” him into the practice, which means apparently that they don’t want to accept anyone who needs care or is sick.
I think they want to cram as many patients in as possible so they can recoup some of the money they lose by bargaining with HMOs. And we live in an area filled with doctors and hospitals and research facilities.
I just couldn’t wait one more day to talk to all you cute little Froggies!
Here’s a little something to pass along to any comedians in the LA area:
Levantine Cultural Center and Café-Club Fais Do-Do are cosponsoring an evening of savage humor to roast George W. and his neo-con cohorts in Washington. Standup comedy, sketch comedy, musical satire and spoken word artists are invited to contact us.
BUSH ROAST, Wednesday, August 16, 8 pm-11 pm at Café-Club Fais Do-Do, 5257 West Adams Blvd., LA 90016
As I’m sure most of you noticed (thanks for the recommends!) I got one of my writing projects done last week, yay! It was an interesting experiment and I got some great feedback that I’m still thinking about.
Aside from that, as some of you already know, I went to a 3-day Americorps Training conference in Long Beach, which was pretty interesting. I’m not sure that I quite get Americorps yet, but of course my role is in the fundraising area so I’ll just read the guidelines and do my best.
I’m not sure I like Long Beach, especially when you get lost in all those surrealistic piers with their tangle of winding ramps. I could see the Queen Mary out my hotel window and I think some of the spooks were hanging out in my room at night. I kept waking up exactly at 3:00 AM, like in that creepy film “The Exorcism of Emily Rose.”
When I got back to work on Thursday, they had torn up the office to lay down new carpet, so I got next to nothing done with lots of big deadlines breathing down my neck, oh well. They just made a new rule that absolutely no one is allowed to get romantially involved with a co-worker and if two people get married, one of them will get fired. Though how they are supposed to get engaged when no romance is allowed remains a mystery. This is so repressive, I feel like I just got transported back into the 1950s. I didn’t even know it was legal to make work rules like that. The assumption is that people aren’t capable of being professional, which is a weird assumption to make if you are trying to run a business, in my opinion.
Not much news besides that, except we’re on-beyond sweltering out here on the Lower Left Coast. The one saving grace for the summers in the SF Valley used to be that it always went down to the 60s at night and you could open everything up and cool off the house. Last night it was 87 degrees at 11:00 at night, so it has gotten very humid and tropical to add to the already punishing summer heat.
Hope all you Froggies are well and (at least some of you) are staying cool!

I just saw on the news this morning that 50% of people have had sex at work…
Good morning everyone! Hope all is going well. I’m extremely exhausted, so I’m going to do some volunteer work for Lamont tomorrow instead of today, as I had originally planned.
And did anyone else here see those Rasmussen numbers? Holy Joe is in deep shit!
I understand (sorta)how ratings work and seem to be eligible to give them out but can’t figure out how to do so. Of course I’m only interested in passing out 4s. So please don’t think I don’t love you because I haven’t yet!
I’m hitting the buttons but nothing much is happening. I did figure out how to recommend diaries-that may be as much as I can do today. I learned how to fix a flat tire on my bike a few days ago so I may have exceeded my new skills acquisition quota for the week.
Hmmm…maybe it’s not too hot to go to the street fair after all. DJ, are you folks staying cool?
One of my happiest hot weather memories is of rescuing a friend who lost her keys running up (!) the trail at Multnomah Falls one August years ago-I figured out how to hotwire her truck and then we found an access path underneath the falls where it was cool and wet.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend planned. I am going back for more campaign training today. Yesterday was great. I hope you do a diary on this. I think it would be very interesting.
I am taking notes on each segment and will do a dairy about it once the weekend is over.
LOL sorry you cannot sleep. Sleeping during a play is indeed rude. LOL Hopefully you can get in at least a nap before the theatre.
Yeah, and it’s not like it’s a big Broadway style theater where I could hide safely back in row QQQ and only annoy the people around me when I snore. I think there are only about 8 rows of seats, and the theater seats maybe 200 total, if that.
LOL I can see the lead chucking a prop at you now.
It’s a “bluegrass musical” called Smoke On The Mountain, so I figure the lead would hit me over the head with a banjo or something. 🙂
OMIR are you going to attend the MLW meet up in Seattle? 7/29?
I’m afraid I don’t know anything about it, so my answer is “it depends.” Saturdays are pretty hectic chez Omir.
Yeah I’m not sure if I can make it. I’d like to though. I’ll let you know… but I know there will be MANY more opportunities to hook up with you and your family.

Good morning everyone.
Morning FamilyMan!!!!
How’re ya doing Refinish.
Pretty good. I am a little sleepy since Bette did not sleep well last night and kept waking me up but am raring to go today for the campaign camp. LOL How about you?
I’m pretty good. My sleeping routine is out of kelter and I’m trying to get that back to a decent time, but other than that, good.
Well after running Chez FamilyMan and waiting on the hordes I guess your sleep pattern would be screwed up. LOL
Maybe that’s what I should do, open a B&B. That way I could start charging family when they visit. 🙂
Morning FM, what’s new?
Morning Omir. Not much happening here. What’s going on with you?
Finally managed to get some sleep. Now it’s time to eat breakfast and shower for at least the first time today. Given how hot it’s supposed to be I may be hosing off again.
Omir, I’m sorry to see you up so early on a Saturday. I hope you’re planning to emulate FM and have a good nap later.
Hi FM, where were you hiding yesterday?
Hi Andi. I kept popping in and out, but didn’t have time to do too much. Hopefully today will be different.
You and Jim have any big plans for today?
Just the usual — assuming the weather clears up (it’s been raining), we’ll go for a bike ride. And we’ll go to the grocery store, and probably the library.
Very exciting stuff.
I’ve always felt trips to the grocery store to be the high point of a boring day. Don’t know why, but grocery shopping always leaves me in a good mood.
That is of course, until I have to put everything away. 🙂
I don’t like going to the grocery store or putting stuff away. Jim doesn’t mind doing grocery shopping at all which is good since he does most of it.
You’re a very lucky person I take it. 🙂
I was going to say ‘at least in terms of grocery shopping’ but in a moment of either early morning clarity or early morning sappiness I decided that this is generally true.
Now you need to get Jim in the habit of peeling grapes and hand feeding you. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. 🙂
People are starting to stir, and I’ve got to get breakfast started. Looks like pancakes this morning.
Everyone have a good day in the pond.
You sound like a very happy couple who compliment each other in many ways.
I Love going to the grocery store and when I am traveling will go into new ones and walk all the aisles. LOL
Yeah, just hopefully not during the play. 🙂
I finally got some sleep but I’m not sure about that nap. One of my toddler granddaughters came over to play so I’m not sure how conducive to sleeping her presence is going to be.
I am on my way to get ready for campaign camp and drive over to Austin for the day. I will check in tonight or tomorrow.
(I’m still excited to have the power and water back. Can you tell?)
It’s supposed to be a rainy weekend here, but it hasn’t started yet. Which is good, because we have quite a bit of catch-up housework to do today.
well its pouring here and i was out at 7am to do all the bedspreads in the ginormous laundramat washer.
the place was packed.
and people brought their dogs.
i have a million errands to run and i need a pedicure before surgery on wed so i have pretty toes in the operating room…plus the news sucks so im staying away from it the rest of the weekend.
i hope everyone enjoys theirs.
Pretty toes for surgery. 🙂 Have a good weekend anna.
I guess that means I’ll have rain within the hour, then. 🙂
A pedicure sounds good to me…
we missed them again Cabin Girl. Have fun with the housework. Looks like it’s going to be hot and rainy – my favorite combo.
And, god, is my throat sore. I couldn’t get an appt. until next week. They were very helpful of course by saying if it was an emergency I should go to the ER. :/
Don’t you hate when they do that?
We have a doctor who actually will meet us at the office before he goes and does his hospital rounds if it’s a real problem and it happens on a day he doesn’t have office hours. I wish there were more like that.

No being sick at the beach. 🙂
My throat has actually been chronically sore for 3 or 4 MONTHS, always on the right side. But it got acutely sore along with the cough and burning lungs. Yay!
I won’t be sick at the beach.
Yuck. How could they not squeeze you in yesterday?
I don’t know. Even the PA (which I prefer) and the nurse practitioner were full.

Hey MM! – that savage roast looks like so much fun! Wish I could be there.
It’s grossly hot here too, even at night. I don’t think I’ll be able to open the windows again until late September. :/
It does look like fun doesn’t it, though we call all get a savage roast just by stepping out the door, LOL!
Check you email, I answered you back!
Late September…. yikes!
I just saw on the news this morning that 50% of people have had sex at work…
That must be why they made the rule!
doesn’t that depend on the definition what ‘is’ is? Or something?
I’m off to get a hair cut, just can’t stand looking like the shaggy dog anymore!
I hopep they put a stick up Bush’ butt to roat him. 🙂
(((MythMother))) it’s super hot here in Portland. Yesterday it was 108!!! YIKES!!!
Good morning everyone! Hope all is going well. I’m extremely exhausted, so I’m going to do some volunteer work for Lamont tomorrow instead of today, as I had originally planned.
And did anyone else here see those Rasmussen numbers? Holy Joe is in deep shit!
Hey all,
Just a drive by from Syracuse today.
Tea: China White Spring Blossom

I understand (sorta)how ratings work and seem to be eligible to give them out but can’t figure out how to do so. Of course I’m only interested in passing out 4s. So please don’t think I don’t love you because I haven’t yet!
Well, you can click the drop down underneath a post, go straight to “4-Excellent” and then push the “Rate All” button.
Or you can use this handy dandy little device to give everyone in the Cafe a 4:
RoboRater
I use it all the time. In fact I like it so much, I had to write it because it didn’t exist before I did!
Thanks! I will give it a try!
Looks like you got something to work at any rate. 🙂
I could never figure it out. 😉
I’m hitting the buttons but nothing much is happening. I did figure out how to recommend diaries-that may be as much as I can do today. I learned how to fix a flat tire on my bike a few days ago so I may have exceeded my new skills acquisition quota for the week.

Naw.. We’re not going to the street fair. It’s very humid out huh.
I guess I did get it right-the fours are showing up now-hot damn!
