Welcome back! Come join our 50th edition party!!!
This week we celebrate a half century of Saturday Morning Painting. Well, at least it seems like 50 years in blog time. When I started this series, (what was I thinking?) I wasn’t quite sure where I was going. Now 50 volumes later, I’ll continue to offer the gradual painting progressions that I do currently.
Of course, I want to thank everyone for your continued support. Your comments and recommendations have been appreciated.
This week we’ll be continuing with the painting of Wild Horse Butte, a scene from southern Utah. It is seen in the photo directly below.
When last we met, the paiting appeared as it does directly below. It was merely a silhouette of the butte with no details added.
Since that time I’ve been a bit lazy. I’ve painted in the first layer of the sky. I will probably darken it slightly and add the small cloud seen on the right side of the photo. It does start to bring things together. The current state of the painting is seen directly below.
In the coming weeks I will further develop the surface and shadows of the butte and continue with the sky.
And now I have a surprise. In addition to the paintings I show here every Saturday, I have some others that I have been working on from time to time. One of these is seen directly below.
This painting was begun some time ago. I have been told that it is similar to a work by another artist. I can assure you that it is an original piece and any resemblance to other paintings is purely coincidental. And I can assure you that if there is another similar painting in existance, mine was the first. In any event, I will continue with the work, especially the smile.
Well, thanks for stopping by to help me celebrate! I’ll see you next week.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
But seriously, boran2, isn’t that sitting down portaiture kinda old-fashioned? You’ve seen the new Bill Clinton white house portrait right?
Now, There’s a mysterious smile!
Next time, I’ll have to paint madame boran standing.
It looks a little better on the artist’s website:
Bill Clinton Portrait
and you can click on a close-up of the face, too. Your painting of the elusive Mrs. Boran looks much more mysterious, IMO.
we were just discussing how Danni and I should work on some pastels on black to save as “christmas” gifts for my brother, mom and Wayne’s folks.
Oh I’ve got to d/l something she made last night… hang on.
PS I love that you bring the art in here đŸ™‚ It’s very much apart of me that I’ve neglected but in so many ways comes through me every day. XOXOX
Marble Madness
Abstract Pastels
I shared it with myu hockey friends just now… but it was due to Boran2’s thread.
My daughter has from day one, colored on floors, walls, furniture and herself, even. Chalks, magic markers, crayons, watercolors, pastels, wax, oils… oh my.
I’ve neglected my own “artist” side and have found that I can’t ignore it any longer. If nothing else, I need it as a release. I’ve met many marchers who also paint. I think it’s no coincidence that people who love art, the earth, music… choice and thought… they aren’t full of hate. They are outraged because of the simple fact they do care and do love.
So again, as Danni inspired me with her political letters and her own activism… she’s pulled me to pull out the paints and sketch pads.
Kids
I think I”ll put her letter up here on Booman. It was one of my first diaries on Kos.
I love that pastel!
