I’m not much of a country music fan – I like a few things, most Martina McBride (hey, my mom used to work for her Father In Law :-), some Garth Brooks (who doesn’t like Thunder Rolls or Friends in Low Places… c’mon)
but generally I’ll leave it rather than take it….
but this….
this is one HELL of a song. Politics ain’t bad either.
Not Ready to Make Nice. Dixie Chicks. Track Plays Here , Video that will undoubtedly piss some folks off available via flash link on that site too – lyrics posted after the fold.
Heh… my kids just came in and said “Is that COUNTRY?” Dad’s playing COUNTRY?….
Atrios has been tracking things…. Clear Channel may not play them – my wife switched stations locally because of it – but they’re still selling albums and selling out concerts. Here’s to strong, independent women who refuse to let the bastards get them down 🙂
Not Ready To Make Nice
Words and Music by Emily Robinson, Natalie Maines, Martie McGuire, & Dan Wilson
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waitingI’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep payingI’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
`Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I shouldI know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like itI made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be overI’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
`Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I shouldI’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
`Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I shouldForgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting
rant on ladies. Simplexity will be buying his first country album soon. Release is May 23rd.
been too damn long since I <s>had</s>made time to hop in the pond.
I’m blown away by this song… great stuff. The conventional wisdom seems to be that the clear channel boycott ended their careers – nevermind, as Atrios points out, than they are selling albums, selling out concerts, etc….
anywho…. great music and great politics seems to be in season – Chicks, Neal Young, etc.
I think the wind is changing. Check it out my Tribber friends 🙂
you are these parts, friend. Thanks for giving me the kick in the butt to go and order my Dixie Chicks CD. Hope you’re doing good!
Nice to see you here.
We need more artists of all stripes and genres who aren’t afraid to put their politics in their music. People like Neil Young who’s been doing it since before “Ohio”. People like Eminem and the Dixie Chicks and Springsteen and Tim McGraw and Brighteyes and any of the others you can think of who aren’t afraid to sing their mind and are popular in spite of their political music. Maybe even because of it.
Pink’s “Stupid Girls” to that mix. Maybe its not overtly political – but just what our young women need to hear these days. One line from the song that is more political:
What happened to the dreams of a girl president
She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent
I’ll take your word for it. I unfortunately had to limit myself to groups and artists that I had actually heard of. 🙂
I was also talking about artists that have hit mainstream status. I don’t know if that applies to Pink, because my grasp on popular culture isn’t what it used to be. But then again I’m over 50, so near as I can tell it’s supposed to be that way.
