Talk to me While I’m Listening – Nanci Griffith
Waiting for a Train – Jorma Kaukonen
Comfortably Numb – Scissor Sisters
Glass House – Ani DiFranco
Cornflake Girl – Tori Amos
Caballo Viejo – Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban
Hope you’re all staying cool…it’s beastly hot here.
I love when FRT is early enough for fogies like me.
The Last Day of our Acquaintance – Sinead O’Connor
Sunny Came Home – Shawn Colvin
I Saw Her Standing There – The Beatles
The Very Thought of You – Billie Holiday
Tumbling Dice – The Rolling Stones
Authority Song – John Cougar Mellencamp
Love Song – Tesla
One Slip – Pink Floyd
Come As You Are – Nirvana
Hey Tonight – Creedence Clearwater Revival
Me too, cause your music selection is so cool.. and with this post, I’m running back to the house and away from my wireless connection because a thunderstorm is coming, hopefully bringing cooler weather…
Howdy there Ms. Indy! And CG, Omir et tous les autres!
Just a quick howdy here as I’m still in cubihell for another 50 mins… haven’t had the chance to spend much time in the FBC/FBL lately and I miss it!
Hope everyone is doing well and that CG, you get some relief from the heat soon … it should be there in a day or so, as it finally broke here yesterday and though it’s 87 today here, the humidity has dropped significantly and it’s almost pleasant outside.
I envy you folks with T-storms, since the ones around here lately have either rolled in very early in the morning or skirted us entirely, thus cheating us of the light shows we so dearly love.
No FRT here, but I do hope to see some of the movies I bought myself for my birthday last weekend… Syriana, The Jacket and A Very Long Engagement … we’ll see how many of those I can remain conscious for, lol!
And for you, Indy, if you haven’t seen it already, go rent Margaret Cho: Assassin! We got that last weekend and it’s a hoot! I think I liked Revolution slightly better, but for us LGBT folks, Assassin is very topical and killer on the politics (pun intended).
Hey, IVG! Good to see you, even if only passing through.
While I do love comedy, I haven’t seen that Cho routine yet; I will totally check it out. Late to the party as per usual (and not even fashionably so) I just started watching Six Feet Under, and I am immediately in love with it. How hot is David’s boyfriend, omg.
OH BABY, are you in for a treat with SFU!!! I have the entire series finally and ooh yeah, Keith is to die for! Though I occasionally found Nate kinda hot, the evolution of his character kind of got in the way for me… but I don’t want to spoil anything for ya! It’s perhaps the best damn series in the past 20 yrs IMHO. Keep me posted on your progress (assuming you’re still on season 1) … there’s an episode in season 4 about the Rapture that will have you in stitches, falling out of your chair. I almost peed myself laughing at that one… something to look forward to hon! Glad you’re feeling a bit better… keep it going!
Because normally your lists are reminders to me of how out of it I am when it comes to music. It doesn’t have anything to do with taste (but thank you), just lack of knowledge.
I don’t know how to break this to you, Andi, but a lot of my friends bust my ass about how out the loop I am, so you should probably not use me as any kind of hipster gauge unless you add some kind of exponent to your equation. ;p
You are NOT out of the loop. You are just as loopy as I am.. and then some. 🙂
Today at a traffic light, I saw a woman sitting by a bus stop, something about her reminded me of you. It must’ve been her baggy brown cargo-style pants or the evil, comedic sly smile on her face… as if she was listening to her own music… I wanted to open the car door and jump out and hug her… but… I knew it couldn’t be you – it was just me missing you.. and the light changed.
And I was thrust back into another hazy day of summer.
More like a list of some of the stuff I’ve been listening to this week. In no particular order:
Heart Of Gold – Neil Young
Teachin’ the Blues – John Lee Hooker
Ridin’ Down The Canyon – Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Arlo Guthrie
Riding In My Car – Woody Guthrie
I Wanna Be Sedated – Ramones
Black Friday – Steeley Dan
Mother – Pink Floyd
Drivin’ In My Car – Henry Philips
Charmin’ Betsy – Henry Thomas
Let It (All Hang) Out – The Hombres
Well I’m headed to hang with my bestest friends that are abandoning me next week and moving to Dubai. They are having a going away party tomorrow night, but this is a chance to have a more personal goodbye.
we’ve actually accomplished a few things around here; still have the major stuff to tackle.
Can’t believe you didn’t recognize the Dubai line from back during the ports debacle — I think Keith used it a few times during that period. 🙂 Although IIRC, he actually said, “You say Dubai, we say ‘Hell no!'” 🙂
Hi all. I don’t have an ipod , or a list for you. Just this link to one of my fave pop culture writers – John Powers remembering Aaron Spelling
Powers wrote a good book about the bushies called “Sore Winners.”
Me neither, but had to throw a Yo-Dada! out there since I’ve not seen you for a while. Hopefully we’ll reconnect at some point this weekend if the stars and my exhaustion of late comply.
Have a great time at the fest dada… sounds exactly up your proverbial alley… can you take Bu with you or does she have to hold down the fort at home?
Room In My Heart – Jonatha Brooke
Back In The High Life Again – Warren Zevon
Kitty Come Home – Kate & Anna McGarrigle
The Lily Of The West – The Chieftains & Mark Knopfler
Little Gypsy Girl – Eliza Carthy
How Long Has This Been Goin’ On – Shirley Horn
Phone Booth – Robert Cray Band
Long Hot Summer Nights – Wendy Waldman
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da – The Beatles
The Last Time – Big Brother & The Holding Company
Heya there Andi! Seems like ages since I’ve caught you live here, not your fault, but this old geezer’s alone. Any cooler out your way?
Great FRT as usual, though there are a couple I’ve never heard of …. never asked you, but do you like bluegrassy type stuff at all? I used to be a fanatic on that stuff and still like it a lot, and would recommend anything with Garcia and Old and in the Way or anything with Dave Grisman. (he also worked with John Hartman at one time as well). Just curious…
If I could, I’d mix up a bunch of Reverend Horton Heat and Austin Lounge Lizards, throw it in the air and see what falls out. That would be more than entertaining for me at this point in the week!
Oh yeah, 4th dog is going home tomorrow or Sunday, not sure which… she’s been a complete (totally in the way 100+ lbs) angel this week, and I will miss her. Evil me says we should give them Andy and keep Lacey, hehe. Don’t tell C that or he’ll kill me!
I have several Dave Grisman LPs. Also a couple of Dillards. So I like bluegrass but I prefer it folk or jazz tinged and I like it much better as instrumentals.
It cooled off to the mid-80s here — which right now feels much cooler.
Off to erranding shortly, but wanted to squeeze this in:
Welcome to the Jungle — Guns N’ Roses
The Four Seasons “Winter”: I. Allegro Non Molto (comp. Vivaldi) — Academy of St. Martin in the Fields
Opus One — John Williams
(Who Discovered) America? — Ozomatli
Only You Know and I Know — Phil Collins
Beep — The Pussycat Dolls
Walk Like an Egyptian — The Bangles
A View to a Kill — Duran Duran
Cruel War — Peter, Paul & Mary
Takin’ It to the Streets — The Leland Stanford Jr. University Marching Band
Passing Me By – Sunday Afternoon
Cumbia del Sol – Sensemaya
Best Friend – Olivia(!) and 50 Cent
Doubting Thomas – Nickel Creek
Snap Yo Fingers – Lil John ft. E-40 and Sean Paul
Para Vivir – Alejandro Fernandez
Saturday in the Park – Chicago
1234 – De La Soul/Ozomatli
Run It! – Chris Brown
Para tu Amor – Juanes
Hola Senor Eegee! Nice to see you briefly, though I’m tearing outta here as soon as C gets here to pick me up. I have to find some of the Ozomatli stuff, it sounds great! Time to hit Django’s for some searching and shopping I guess.
I think I’ll pull out my Atahualpa discs tonight… just might be what I need to help dissipate the funk I’m in lately. Hmm, or Los Amigos invisibles… you just gave a bunch of idea, amigo.
Hope to catch you later, if not, you and Bud have a great weekend and stay cool!
Hope the music helps, it seems to do the trick when there’s a good beat to dance to 🙂
I’m excited, gonna see Ozo in Flagstaff on the 18th of this month. Concert #6 (SORRY INDY!!!!) They’re going to release their new album before the year’s out, I can’t wait. See ya around, señor, I can see the end of the tunnel approaching but two hours left gives plenty of space for chaos.
The concert’s at the Orpheum, this’ll be my first show up there. Can’t wait to get out of this effing dog forsaken desert heat. Any recommendations on where I can get a good cup of that coffee we always talked about getting but will have to reschedule for sometime in the Midwest?
Best coffee = Late For The Train, there’s one downtown on San Francisco and there’s one on Milton right where 17 & 40 come together. Best coffee atmosphere = Macy’s, on Beaver Street (south side) right by the tracks. Although the Campus Coffee Bean (also on Milton) isn’t bad either.
And honey, any kinda nice peaks you see up there should get a big “hey yeah” from me, too. 😉
Ozomatli is going to be in Philly later this month, I know you mentioned one of the CG’s was a fan:
08/25/2006- Philladelphia, PA USA
Penn’s Landing – Festival Pier; 301 S. Columbus Blvd.; Philladelphia , PA 19106; Bob Marley Roots Rock Reggae Festival; http://www.pennslandingcorp.com/;
R.E.M. songs…there was a version Michael Stipe did for Sesame Street (I think) that was called “Furry Scary Monsters” or something like that; I’ve been scouring the Internets for a copy…(hmmm…I have a cassette called “Kermit Unpigged” somewhere on my shelves — wonder if it might be on that…)
A quick post and random 10 (since I saw Cali Scribe was already with hers):

Stay safe and enjoy the storm!
We’ll have a nice view, if it actually makes it here, although it’s looking doubtful because the sun is coming back out. Damn.
Howdy there Ms. Indy! And CG, Omir et tous les autres!
Just a quick howdy here as I’m still in cubihell for another 50 mins… haven’t had the chance to spend much time in the FBC/FBL lately and I miss it!

You have a great weekend, too, hon!

I know everybody on your list (and have four of them).
Why does this mean I’m slipping? I think you have great taste in music.
Because normally your lists are reminders to me of how out of it I am when it comes to music. It doesn’t have anything to do with taste (but thank you), just lack of knowledge.
I don’t know how to break this to you, Andi, but a lot of my friends bust my ass about how out the loop I am, so you should probably not use me as any kind of hipster gauge unless you add some kind of exponent to your equation. ;p
Hey, from waaay back here, it all looks hip to me.
But I’m still thinking of and missing you.

Let It (All Hang) Out – The Hombres
Here’s hopin’ everyone has a fine weekend!
I just gotta’ say…
I think it’s ultra sexy that you dig the Ramones 🙂
Heh. I don’t dig everything they ever did and I’m not much for punk in general, but yeah, the Ramones have just enough talent to keep me hooked.
Well I’m headed to hang with my bestest friends that are abandoning me next week and moving to Dubai. They are having a going away party tomorrow night, but this is a chance to have a more personal goodbye.
Very depressing for yours truly.
You sure are having a rough year, BooMan. 🙁 I really hope things start looking up for you soon.
let’s hope no one pulls out the Beatles: “You say Dubai, I say hello…” 😛
I echo Cali on that, Booman. The best always end up in some far flung place, at least that’s been my experience as well over the years.
Oh and Cali… OUCH on that one. I think you just pulled that one out yourself! LOL Finally cooler out your way now?
we’ve actually accomplished a few things around here; still have the major stuff to tackle.
Can’t believe you didn’t recognize the Dubai line from back during the ports debacle — I think Keith used it a few times during that period. 🙂 Although IIRC, he actually said, “You say Dubai, we say ‘Hell no!'” 🙂

Today’s song – “Get Up, Stand Up” Bob Marley
Have a great weekend!

See ya soon, dada.
No dogs…she’s made other arrangements.
We’ve been a bit MIA ’round these parts for sure…have a great w/e and I’ll catch ya on the flip.

Small world, I know some groovy folks who live in Greeley. Have a great time, dada!

Hmm, is that Zevon tune a cover of Steve Winwood or is Winwood’s a cover of Zevon? Or both or neither?
It’s a cover of Winwood’s song.

thanks for the tips.
we both ended up with Ozo in our random 10? How weird!
(That’s the only one I have so far; a local station played it as part of a Cinco de Mayo set and I fell in love with it…)
as long as he sticks to his strict nap schedule.
about Bud’s ability to hold to his schedule. Would that I could be so dedicated.
would be a more peaceful place if everyone kept to a regular nap schedule. In fact, I recommend we all take one for the next two years.
Let’s stay awake until the November elections and then we can decide how long a nap we need.
in a duly way.
Ozomatli is going to be in Philly later this month, I know you mentioned one of the CG’s was a fan:
Not sure about age requirements.
of course I meant CBs. 31 more minutes!!!!!
Thanks ManEe! That migt be fun…and it’s CBtE’s birtday that weekend.
I hope eveyone survived the week. I for one am damn glad it is Friday!!!!!!
Man, I need some music from this century!
R.E.M. songs…there was a version Michael Stipe did for Sesame Street (I think) that was called “Furry Scary Monsters” or something like that; I’ve been scouring the Internets for a copy…(hmmm…I have a cassette called “Kermit Unpigged” somewhere on my shelves — wonder if it might be on that…)
