The right-wing is going to be all over this. It’s all innocent. Joe Biden acknowledged the obvious…that Sarah Palin is good-looking…better looking than he is. He engaged in a little self-deprecation and had a little chuckle about how he’s not what he used to be. But the danger is that he’ll come across as patronizing. He wasn’t being patronizing but it’s so easy to cross that line with a candidate that is so clearly unfit for the job. Biden cannot afford to talk down to Palin and treat her like the token candidate that she is. It will infuriate a lot of women.
Biden is famous for saying things that are a little off, or that cross the boundaries of propriety. That is really the only main concern I had about him as a potential running mate. Yes, I disagree with him on some foreign policy issues and I really did not appreciate his vote for the bankruptcy bill. But it was his proclivity for the gaffe that disqualified him in my book. I don’t see this as a big gaffe. It’s a small gaffe and it should not be repeated even once for the duration of the campaign. Sarah Palin is not any more qualified than Michael Brown or Harriet Miers. Her good looks are neither a plus or a minus and should not be a topic of discussion for Obama or Biden.

Thanks Steven, that’s very good to see. Although our local flooding in June was minuscule in comparison, people lost homes and the frustration of relocation remains for many of them. A disaster the magnitude of Katrina I can’t imagine.

No, it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s gotta stop. My biggest worry is that Biden will call her ‘Honey’ in the debate, or do the equivalent with his dismissive attitude.
Agree they shouldn’t go there. Let the right continue to talk about how hot she is and let that piss off women. But not all women. Interestingly a woman’s look is often more important to women than men. Beauty pageants for example routinely draw far more women viewers than men.
I think they just need to let her talk about the issues and wait for her to embarrass herself. But they also don’t want to make her look sympathetic
We only watch beauty pageants to mock all of the contestants.
It may have been a gaffe in the sense that politicians are supposed to believe what they know ain’t so and vice versa, but not in the real world. Ask anybody on the street and they’ll acknowledge that being a beauty queen probably had something to do with Palin’s political rise. If she’s now done a 180 and doesn’t want anybody to notice her body I can probably find her a store that sells chadors.
Politicians, unless they believe that the earth is 6000 years old and that some god wants them to rule the world, are required to stick to childish bullshit. But I thought around here we were supposed to be reality based.

Being sympathetic and empathetic to Palin at the personal level whilst attacking McCain for NOT PUTTING THE COUNTRY FIRST by selecting the most qualifies VEEP is probably the way to go.
