And no, I did NOT pull another all-nighter; was in bed shortly after the Sharks’ horrendous game last night (lost 8-0 to Phoenix; if Olivia comes in she can commiserate), so got about 6 hours or so of shut-eye before I woke up and decided to get out of bed. Spouse making a recycling center run today, so maybe I can go through some of the old magazines and decide if there’s anything worth keeping then bag the rest; the big recycling center up in Palo Alto takes just about everything including styrofoam, plastic bags, batteries, phone books and magazines — the local one in Sunnyvale pretty much does just cardboard, newsprint and mixed paper, so it’s worth the extra few miles.
Can’t believe it’s the last day of 2006 — it’s been pretty much a mixed bag this year, good (our trip to the Northwest, the BooTrib get-together in SoCal) and bad (the assorted health and personal/marital crises). But 2007 is already looking a bit better — spouse may be back at work by mid-January (though he’ll need a few days of retraining first), my “Operation Incredible Shrinking Woman” is progressing, and I’m feeling a little more confident about the future of this country and the future of this household…
since I started it before New Year’s, it’s probably got a better shot at working — in the past I’ve made New Year’s resolutions in February…for Chinese New Year. π
Actually I just came up with the title for the “project” within the last week — sort of makes it a bit more fun and a bit less work…
I used to love large crowds when I was younger, but 4 times in NO for Mardi Gras and 3 times in Munich for Octoberfest and various other things, I’ve sort of gotten to the point where I’ve seen enough. Geezerhood, ain’t it great. π
Never done the large crowd thing for New Year’s. A meal with friends would be nice, but even that is usually out for us. We will likely either be asleep by midnight (that is truly showing geezerhood, I think), or listening to BBC dramas while also doing other things. We live a life of excitement and drama at every turn.
The letters and housecleaning will be kind of boring, but you could make a game out of keeping Teach away from the computer. BTW why do you want to keep him away from the computer?
He’s almost become frozen to his chair and keyboard. And I realize its asking a great deal, but I would like to have our kitchen redo finished before the 14th year of the start of that remodeling. . .not that we’ll do anything about that today.
Actually, I’m almost equally to blame. At least 49% worth. We are an example of what’s called “assortative mating”: similar in good and not so good habits.
it’s harder to keep my spouse away from the computer — if I’m on the laptop he’ll hop on the desktop, and vice versa. And if I get the new laptop I’m hoping for (rumors are that Apple’s going to release a 12-inch MacBookPro at the upcoming MacWorld, which would be the perfect size for traveling, school, etc.), we’ll be a three-computer household; I’ll reformat the iBook to be his personal laptop, then we’ll each have one for when we’re traveling together — pack along the Airport Express and we can even set up a small WiFi network in our hotel room… π
That picture, although very attractive, looks just a tad ominous. Is Froggie saying that’s to reflect on the old year, or in anticipation of the new one?
Seems like a gloomy sort of day but it’s still nice and warm so I’ll try to get Hopeful to the dog park before it rains. She chewed up my card reader last night while I was organizing the office, so I’ll have to buy another one today. On the plus side, her anus can now upload my photos!
Can someone look at the second photo in the “more photos” section and tell me if this young woman can possibly weigh 155 lbs? I’ve already fired off a LTE about the disconnect between what the article says and what the photos say.
Well, she is 6’1″ but her friend is 6’2″ and weighs supposedly less, but manages to have some meat on her bones and not look like a crack whore. Sorry, I just hate how they make young girls look.
She reminds me of some of the anorexic gals I used to work with who wore many layers of clothing well before that was stylish, to hide how thin they were.
Well, I’ll never have to worry about having arms like that….CBtY is making Black Russian cake even as I type this. Guess I’ll be heading out for a walk a little later.
wasn’t so prudish, you could send that little Hopeful tidbit to them…I could imagine the late Erma Bombeck coming up with a line like that in one of her columns.
That had me almost falling off the couch laughing…
I’ve gotta go, too. The livestock are beginning to act up and I must adopt a studied indifference and drift away from the computer so as to not reinforce their whinging by hopping to and smothering them with immediate attention.
Morning Folks. I slept in this am since I went to be at 4:30 am. LOL I was up working on some new designs all night and have more to do for the same section. I am preparing a lot of new designs for Freedom To Marry Week and will be doing a dairy about it sometime this week.
Thanks. I will probably be working as much overtime as possible for the next couple of months and devoting a lot of time to my designs sites to get cash flow back where it should be. LOL
Thank you. The 1138 is the amount of rights and protections a straight couple recieves from the us goverment when they sign their marriage lic. Here is a link to a dairy I did about it.
Happy New Year to you and yours! That cake sounds yummy and great
for New Year’s Eve breakfast (or more appropriately maybe New Year’s Day breakfast)!
I’m sitting here still sniffing a mulled cider scented, Christmas candle – guess I should move on,
especially in this “balmy” northeast coast weather. Hope to see you soon in the new year!
We’re having the cake tonight (along with our Indian feast), and tomorrow I’m trying out a creme brulee french toast recipe made with Challah bread and Cointreau (in lieu of Grand Marnier).
Enjoy the “balmy” winter weather, and have fun out on Long Island…I’m sure we’ll see you in 2007!
Sounds great!!! Hope you have a fabulous new year’s eve feast. I will be going and buying some gourmet cheeses and deli meats and a nice bottle of wine to sip tonight as I caht and design and watch the new years roll in. LOL
Creme Brulee French Toast! Please publish that inspired
recipe – sounds great for a hangover remedy! Can possibly
be made the night before while drinking heavily
and reheated in a groggy stupor!
Got to go excersise – feeling fat just thinking about
all the goodies ahead!
Here’s the recipe . I actually picked it because you could make it the day before and just pop it into the oven.
I’m a little afraid of the half-and-half in it…but you could probably use whole milk instead and still have it be good. Of course, it is New Year’s Day.
Happy New Year to you! Sounds like yours will be very civilized. Enjoy – if you like goat cheese – try Cypress
Grove/Humbolt Fog – you did say you were headed out to
buy some cheese – right?
Got to go Nordic traking now – some people think that means something other than excersising – but, in this case, it doesn’t.
I might have to get his and hers “marriage equality” shirts for me and the spouse — those would be perfect to wear to the Pride Parade/Festival; we haven’t been in years so I’m determined we’re going to go this year.
(Spouse wants me to get a shirt I saw on another site, “The Only Bush I Trust Is My Own”, but not sure I’m quite that courageous… lol)
I don’t know about you guys, but I sure hope this year is better than last year. Although some parts of last year were pretty freakin’ awesome. November 7th, for instance.
HI Omir!!! I agree with you 100%. I am hoping this coming year is much better than last but am still living on the high of the national election on 11/7. LOL
Good morning and happy new years froggies! It has been one hell of a year and tonight may be a microcosm of that. Got invited by the maybe man at the last minute of course to a musical event but it’s sold out.
I guess what I’ve learned recently is that there are a handful of occasions that really are special that I need to plan ahead for. Too sick and/or crazed to realize this until now. Oh well better late than never…
LOL Happy New Years Soup!!!! I just finished rebuilding a section of the fence that the Diva dogs kocked loose. Who ever built this fence must have learned building from a republican. The damn fence is put together with mainly finishing nails which have no holding power at all. They are typically used to hold molding in place not a fence board!!!
I realized the fence was broken yet again when Bette kept running in here and right back out and Reba was never with her. When I got to the back door Reba was no where to be seen but when I called she was trying to force herself back through the opening she created to get out. Getting out was much easier as the boards swing out not in. LOL If I could have gotten hold of the camera fast enough you would be seeing a picture of her stuck. LOL She got herself through finally and I locked them inside while I did repair work.
I am on my way to the store to lay in supplies for tonight. I would have done this earlier but in Texas you can not buy wine till after 12 on Sundays. I guess the minsters were tired of their congrgations showing up drunk. LOL
rf69-good analogy of the finishing nails=republicans! Say have you read a book by Michael Warner called The Trouble With Normal? My housemate lent it to me-she’s reading it for a class on human sexuality. The author’s a prof at Rutgers and has some fascinating ideas about marriage, gay marriage, sexual autonomy and how we come by our ideas of “normal”. I will have to check it out. New Years celebraqtion has officially started for me. I am eating sushi for lunch that I watched them make at the store. For tonight, I have double creme brie, smoked gouda, goat cheese with pepper, pastor picon with caraway sees, peppered salamie, proschuto, blue cheese and to drink Kendal Jackson Reserve Chardonay. For dessert, a mini sacher cake. LOL I also got some eggnog so I can make a white russian with egg nog since I did not have one christmas. LOL Luckily I do not go to work till 4 pm tomorrow.
It’s New Years here in 48 minutes.
As an adopted Tasmanian, tou have our blessing to start partying then.
We, however, will not be up to party with you, as it is well past our usual bed time and we are giving in to the pull of sleep.
See you in the new year.
and pleasant welcome to 2007 dreams.
Happy New Year to you all!
Good morning everyone.
Happy New Years Keres!
Morning, folks, and Happy New Year to those t’other side of the international date line.
Morning KS and Happy New Years.

Hi, CaliS. I especially like the “incredible shrinking woman” idea. Wish I believed in NYears resolutions – I’d add that one to my imaginary list.
since I started it before New Year’s, it’s probably got a better shot at working — in the past I’ve made New Year’s resolutions in February…for Chinese New Year. π
Actually I just came up with the title for the “project” within the last week — sort of makes it a bit more fun and a bit less work…
Morning Cali.
Hope ya’ll have a good New Years Night.
Yikes … :O
Got big new year’s plans for avoiding parties? π
Guests have left and it will be a very quiet night here … π
Good morning everyone.
Big excesses planned for tonight?
Morning Ask.
Very quiet night planned here. Will you be heading to Times Square?
Hi FM,
Most definitely not going to Times Square tonight. curly and I will head out to friends on Long Island. A quiet dinner with all of 6 people.
Yeah I think I’m past the age of large crowds. Just bringing in the New Year with friends and family sounds good. You and curly enjoy yourselves.
The last (and only) time I did the large crowd thing was the 2000 new year’s eve. I hated it and that wasn’t even a large large crowd.
We live a life of excitement and drama at every turn.
Thanks. You too.
Young asklet is up, time to prepare breakfast.
See ya ask.
I’ve an exciting day of writing letters of recommendation and housecleaning planned. Plus keeping spouse away from his computer as much as possible.
14th year of the start? My God the man is going to be in the slackers hall of fame. π
Actually, I’m almost equally to blame. At least 49% worth. We are an example of what’s called “assortative mating”: similar in good and not so good habits.
getting along on all the wrong things is certainly part of what has made our marriage last.
Just as long as it works, good for you both. π
it’s harder to keep my spouse away from the computer — if I’m on the laptop he’ll hop on the desktop, and vice versa.
Ah, the joys of technology…
FM, what are you up to today?
Nothing at all. I’m still in my extreme napping mode. π
A happy new year’s eve to you all.
Hi Andi.
I think we’re finally through with thunderstorms from last night. Are you still soggy up there?
To you too, Andi, and everyone in the cafe.
Hello Ask, Andi, Cabin Girl,
That picture, although very attractive, looks just a tad ominous. Is Froggie saying that’s to reflect on the old year, or in anticipation of the new one?
on my new years greeting — don’t take that as ominous, it was just geezerous.
I thought the blue sky breaking through was the symbolism. π
That’s good, the optimistic mode.
I wouldn’t mind a stormy year — so long as all the turmoil is experienced by the right.
I’ve already fired off a LTE about the disconnect between what the article says and what the photos say.
news story link
Morning SN.
No way she weighs 155, unless she’s 7 feet tall.
Well, she is 6’1″ but her friend is 6’2″ and weighs supposedly less, but manages to have some meat on her bones and not look like a crack whore. Sorry, I just hate how they make young girls look.
I agree with you. Most of the models look like skeletons.
Her feet are size 18.
They were filled with cement at an early age to keep the wind from blowing her off the planet!
She may once have been 155 at 6/1″, but she surely isn’t in that photo. That’s before the ad agency had her lose at least another 30, I’d bet.
She reminds me of some of the anorexic gals I used to work with who wore many layers of clothing well before that was stylish, to hide how thin they were.
Me too! That’s what I thought when I saw her wearing the thermal layer under the other top in one of the photos.
That’s what I thought – but I wanted a second opinion.
Here’s what I wrote. Damn, I wish I would spend time instead of firing them off in two minutes in a rage.
I think that a really good letter. Let that rage keep going. π
I love it! May your tribe increase, SN (and I don’t mean via pregnancy).
Oh thank god! You scared me there for a minute, KS. π
I always love your letters. And no way would an athlete have an arm like that…
My thoughts exactly, CG.
Well, I’ll never have to worry about having arms like that….CBtY is making Black Russian cake even as I type this. Guess I’ll be heading out for a walk a little later.
What are you and yours doing this evening?
Has the rain showed up yet? It was all gray and gloom here yesterday and it’s been raining since about about 2 a.m. π
Not yet. Still sunny and balmy here.
I’m jealous. The rain should lighten up here in a few and then I’ll put on my rain gear and let the dogs get soaked.
I’m just waiting for the cake to come out of the oven (CBtY needs assistance getting it out of the pan) and then I’m heading out too.
Balmy? Man. We have totally different climates. It’s cold here.
What can I see? It’s one of the wonders of my mountaintop microclimate.
Erm, that should be “what can I say?”
I’m still half asleep this morning.
That’s an excellent letter. You ‘rage’ good.
Rage is one emotion that I do pretty well. π
I was thinking you should come down here for your second week of vacation. You can sleep with HJ in Ryan’s bedroom.
but I only sleep with non-sliming dogs (and I’m sure HJ takes after her namesake in that one).
Did Ryan go back to her “place”?
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!
all over the monitor and planting an image in my head, I’m never going to get rid of (revenge for the early morning posting of the ice picture?).
6’1″ and 155 pounds is skinny.
wasn’t so prudish, you could send that little Hopeful tidbit to them…I could imagine the late Erma Bombeck coming up with a line like that in one of her columns.
That had me almost falling off the couch laughing…
Gotta go, George is starting to whine.
Back in awhile.
Morning Refinish.
Great designs. What no work today? I beginning to believe you should put a cot in at your office. π
Thank you!!!
The only reason I am not working is that our call center is closed on Sundays. LOL I will be working on designs all day and doing house work. LOL
You lead such an exciting life Refinish. π
LOL Well, right now catching up on the bills is important so maybe I can lead a more exciting life in future months.
Yep bills are always important. Hope you get caught up soon.
Thanks. I will probably be working as much overtime as possible for the next couple of months and devoting a lot of time to my designs sites to get cash flow back where it should be. LOL
Well just don’t burn yourself out.
FMom is up and hungry, gotta get breakfast.
See ya later.
LOL Trust me I want. They actually limit the amount of overtime you can work. They have to by law.
Cool designs. What does “1138” in the bottom one mean??
Thank you. The 1138 is the amount of rights and protections a straight couple recieves from the us goverment when they sign their marriage lic. Here is a link to a dairy I did about it.

That sounds good too. Red or white? And we tried a blueberry Wensleydale on Christmas eve that was yummy.
CBtY got a really good Indian cookbook for Christmas, so we’re having butter chicken, rice with peas, and black pepper potatoes.
I think I’m cheating and getting the naan from the Indian restaurant up the road tonight, though.

I love goast chese and will look for it!!! I am also going to buy some cavier(sp). What the hell it is a season to celebrate anyway. LOL

Well, the cake’s out of the oven, so I’m off for my dog hike! See you all later-Happy New Year!
LOL
Some nice indictments and impeachments would make it a lot better. π
Amen to that one!!!!

Close enough to party time to open a celebratory cafe.
