How do you rate Bush’s chances of achieving peace in the Middle East?

I’m reminded of those two Chance brothers.
Boo,
you ought to link to Russ Feingold’s mess of a diary over at kos. This is news. He’s getting a well deserved beat-down for promoting the ‘impeachment is off the table’ mantra.
And may I also state that Mr. Feingold voted to authorize the very same ‘missile defense’ system that so pissed the Russian’s off today?
I already told his office how pissed I am.
No. I mean it’s a scoop. It’s a story. Write about it! There isn’t a more critical issue to discuss! The fucking Democratic party is abrogating it’s responsibility to the constitution. Those people swore an oath, not to the Democratic party, not to their constituents, not to fucking President Bush (like his aides seem to think).
They better fucking uphold that oath. Or we will have a tyranny on our hands. This is the moment. Or else we will all fear the despotism that is sure to follow.
I did comment on it and then I followed up with his press secretary. I told them I was angry.
I don’t feel like doing a post about it, I’ve made my point.
Well, we disagree. But it’s your site. I know how to write. Perhaps I’ll do my share.
I admire Sen. Feingold more than any member of the Senate and more than any present American politican, save Rep. John Lewis (D-GA). So, when I disagree with him I do so in a respectful manner. He actually knows how I feel about this and that is all I can ask from him. I don’t tell him I’m angry unless I am very angry. And his office shows the same respect right back.
They read this site. I’ve had them answer questions I posed in comments. They reached out to me today before I contacted them directly. So, I don’t feel like I need to throw a tantrum because we’ve already communicated.
Well, I admire Barbara Boxer more than any other Senator.
She understands that impeachment is a necessary tool for the sake of justice and the Constitution, not a time-eating nuisance nor a distraction to be avoided at all costs, including the country itself. It is never “off the table”.
She strongly supports protecting the environment.
She doesn’t like illegal and unnecessary wars. (I suspect she doesn’t like being constantly lied to, either.)
She comes prepared with documents, charts, proofs when she is speaking on the Floor.
She actually listens to her constituents.
So… why is Clinton running for President, when Boxer would do a hell of a lot better job for the country and for the world???
She’s my congress-critter, and I’d hate to lose her, but I’ll loan her to the rest of the country for a few years to introduce some good governance to the White House.
Boxer is a great senator.
and slim’s aWol…you’ve heard about camels and needle’s eyes:
The Quran uses this phrase to express the idea of something that is unlikely to happen:
To those who reject Our signs and treat them with arrogance, no opening will there be of the gates of heaven, nor will they enter the garden, until the camel can pass through the eye of the needle: Such is Our reward for those in sin.

Bush Offers Another False Promise to Israel & Palestine
“President Bush in his Palestinian announcement today pushed down softly on the accelerator of a failed Middle East policy.
The President continued to base his policy on deepening the division among Palestinians, on pre-conditions to a two-state solution, and on an unwillingness to outline his own parameters for an Israeli-Palestinian endgame deal. Even the $190 million dollars of money pledged to the new PA government is mostly a repackaging of old commitments.
In most respects today was a rehash of his speech five years ago, albeit under less propitious circumstances. That speech encouraged a regime change that eventually (and one imagines inadvertently) brought Hamas to power — the new speech may well drive Palestinian politics towards a period of even greater chaos that could create a space for al-Qaeda look-a-likes to gain a foothold.” [.]
Zero.
“Achieving peace in the Middle East” assumes George Bush actually wants peace. This is just another distraction for the September report from Iraq. We’ll be fortunate if he isn’t bombing the hell out of Tehran by that point.
You know he’s not serious if he’s sending “birth pangs” Condi to lead the dog-and-pony show.
Zero. Ditto.
Zero is a good estimate based on past experience.
Israel will offer another generous offer, but adamantly refuse to withdraw from the Judea and Samaria, meaning that the Palestinians will be offered Bantustans, AGAIN!
The Israeli hasbara (propaganda) services in conjunction with their subsidiary, the State Department, will again blame the Palestinians for not appreciating that South Africa was a democracy and that Apartheid was not as bad as it seemed, i.e., better than nothing.
I would think there is a better chance of the beer faerie suddenly appearing carrying a case of two-four for me…
failure on the ME experiment, it just one more to add to this one man’s failure in his entire life…He has failed at everything he has ever done!!!!! PERIOD!!!!
in hell.
He has about the same chance of success of achieving peace in the middle east as Salman Rushdie has of hosting a nice, quiet book reading in Tehran.
The same as Beelzebub skating to work.
seriously, i guess anything’s possible. but i’ll even make an exception for this one and say less than zero.
If you take Bush’s proposal and rotate it 90 degrees from springtime (for Hitler) and feed the result to Zaphod’s infinite probability drive… you might get somewhere.
Not “Peace in the Middle East”.
But “Somewhere”.
If we are extremely fortunate, it will suck in the entire Administration with it and deposit them in the same dimension. With whatever is left of their regurgitated proposal.
Who went after the Karbala story, and got it?
The Anchorage Daily News, a McClatchy paper.
(There was also a brief item in USA Today, but the scoop seems to belong to the Anchorage Daily News.)
If you look at the Karbala story, you’ll see that Iran wasn’t the big problem, and bombing Tehran isn’t the big answer, and Baghdad Bergner is full of beans.
Here’s the Karbala story, at the Anchorage Daily News web site:
