Actually, once they dried out, most of the dirt fell off – except for their paws.
They spent the whole day with Luna in the big yard. There were a few escapes early on, but they got soundly told off for pushing through the front fence and after that decided that they didn’t really need to see the front yard that badly.
Ah, the joys of a good mud romp! We once had a neighbor whose black lab loved a roll in whatever dead, very ripe critter’s remains she could find. Needless to say, she received few pets around the neighborhood.
We did have a cold winter. I don’t know why things are blooming so early this year — March has been warmish but nothing spectacular (most 40s and 50s).
I’m sure my internal clock can come up with several. Its still howling at me because of the change. I see a late afternoon nap in my itinerary for today.
My internal clock is finally adjusting. Wait, maybe that’s not really true…I get up automatically at 6 am, wake up CBtY and get him out of bed, but then go back to sleep while he gets ready for school, finally getting up when he’s heading out to catch the bus.
Different schedules for spring vacation seems like a bummer — can’t plan anything for the CBs to do together during the break. Ah well, I guess there’s always summer (and there’s always siblings not wanting to do things together).
It’s not too bad, they’ll both have some matching time off around Easter. And this year, we’re not really in the position to do much of anything anyway.
Reporting a successful cookie launch this afternoon at 4:27:55 PM EDT, after finally overcoming technical delays on the pad. Cookies headed downrange toward Tasmania. It’ll be fun to see what the flight duration will be;-)
She has such a furtive look — like “I can’t let the kids see me doing this; it will set such a bad example”. Or more likely “Screw the kids. I’m not sharing”.
I just got an update from his new mom and it sounds as if he’s very happy and that he’s being very well behaved – I told her that this latter bit will pass. 😉
No you haven’t missed it. She’s going to her new home in Queensland today (I have to have her at the airport by 11:20). I’ll let you know what her new owners decide to call her. Since her new mum is Spanish speaking and half Basque (Pyrs originated with the Basque sheep hearders), I’m expecting her to get a Basque name.
I just put her on the plane, and afterwards called her new owner to let her know her pup’s on the way.
New mum says they decided to build upon her nick name and call her “Garazi” (pronounced with a soft Spanish accent), which means “Grace” in Basque. For her pedigree name they are thinking about calling her “Euzkadi Gypsy Moon”.
right now I can count at least 15 different moths on the sliding glass door. Fortunately for you I’m too tired to catch and photograph any more of them.
The magnolias around town are in full bloom as of yesterday and the pear trees are very close. By the time the annual spring blossom parade rolls around on May 2, we’ll be wondering where the blossoms went!
Except the maple flower buds and some signs of buds on the dogwoods, there isn’t much happening in the woods yet. But the early appearance of the maple buds and the daffodils give me hope of soon-to-arrive green.
It’s just starting to move into full Fall down here.
We recently got just enough rain to finally turn the hills green, but unfortunately it came too late to save a half-dozen or so of our large trees. The sickly looking ones will probably pull through, but the ones without a single green leaf are goners. Unfortunately none of the dead ones are in an area where we could drop them for firewood. At least they’ll be able to provide nest hollows for birds – after a few decades of rotting out.
It looks to be a nice day here in the Valley but it started out at 28 degrees. I’m still waiting to see the beautiful blooms that IVG has over at his place.
I saw that movie in a really white-bread-and-mayonnaise part of town and I was the only person in the theater who laughed when they said her name. And Madeline Kahn was a genius (every time she was on SNL, its laugh-quotient went up by an order of magnitude); I miss her.
Here’s a fresh new cafe to start the week with!
. . . followed by a long romp in the yard.
Someday they’ll have mum’s lovely self-cleaning coat. But today is not that day.
I love all these pictures but this one is the bestest puppy picture ever.
Actually, once they dried out, most of the dirt fell off – except for their paws.
They spent the whole day with Luna in the big yard. There were a few escapes early on, but they got soundly told off for pushing through the front fence and after that decided that they didn’t really need to see the front yard that badly.
It’s so nice when they’re still young enough to be easily intimidated…
Isn’t it. At least by the time Lily starts giving me the brush off she’ll be too big to push through the fence.
Darn — I was hoping for bath pictures.
Ah, the joys of a good mud romp! We once had a neighbor whose black lab loved a roll in whatever dead, very ripe critter’s remains she could find. Needless to say, she received few pets around the neighborhood.
Luna loves to roll in road kill – of which we have a constant supply in front of our property. One of the many reasons she’s not allowed off-lead.
Some of us have such lovely tails and others hardly any at all. Not fair.
These flower buds on a maple are like the daffodils — about two weeks earlier than I’ve ever seen them.

Wow, 2 weeks early? Didn’t the midwest have a pretty harsh winter otherwise (I’m thinking ice and snow storms)?
Our weather patter seems pretty typical this year-still too cold for the daffodils to bloom.
We did have a cold winter. I don’t know why things are blooming so early this year — March has been warmish but nothing spectacular (most 40s and 50s).
That’s quite a sky. Still dark here; I hate daylight savings time.
Its all the fault of that creepy little gnome in Indianapolis!
I think to soothe our souls we should make one insult about Mitch in the cafe every day.

Sounds like an excellent plan. If you do it at the computer, everyone will just think you’re concentrating on the database.
I hate DST too. Do you have a spring break coming up soon so you can sleep in a little?
Spring break is all gone bye-bye. He just left for school. 🙁
Was it last week? CBtY’s is still yet to come (about 2 weeks away), and CBtE’s just ended last week.
Yep, last week.
Different schedules for spring vacation seems like a bummer — can’t plan anything for the CBs to do together during the break. Ah well, I guess there’s always summer (and there’s always siblings not wanting to do things together).

Drive by good (cold) morning to all.
Wow! That’s beautiful.. Thanks, Knucklehead!

W00t!
And in return, I give you “wet dogs”.
At least they dry off fairly easily.
Of course, then they want back out.
that’s criminally cute.
“Cute” and “criminal” nicely sums up the world’s best extortionists (so good that we don’t even mind being conned), aka “dogs”.
Cute overload, there! Love the one with the “prize” root in mouth.
They spent much of the day stealing away with something or other, especially bones.
Even Luna got in on it.
She has such a furtive look — like “I can’t let the kids see me doing this; it will set such a bad example”. Or more likely “Screw the kids. I’m not sharing”.
Definitely the latter.
It’s been funny to watch her get possessive of things.
I can almost smell them … 🙂
They are so cute. Do they miss their brother?
Lucky you.
If they miss him they’re not saying so.
I just got an update from his new mom and it sounds as if he’s very happy and that he’s being very well behaved – I told her that this latter bit will pass. 😉
That’s good to hear. He was always kinda my favorite (no offense to gar and squeak/lily).
I’m sure they wouldn’t take any. He always was the sweetest, and sookiest, one in the bunch.
comes the invasion . . .
. . . of the MOTHS.
A Gum emerald moth, Prascinocyma semicrocea.
I got this i.d. from a book I own, which was lucky because this moth is not found anywhere on the web – until now.
Both of those make for really freaky close-ups but there’s something about the soft green “hair” of this one that really appealing.
Wow. It looks like a bird.
You got some weird lookin’ birds up your way. 😉
I’ve given it due consideration and I would really prefer for my mornings start with cute puppies than with ugly moths. 🙂
Oh come on, they’re both furry, and doesn’t furry = cute? 😉
Umm … grizzly bears are furry.
And the baby ones are cute. See?
How are you this morning?
No, the babies are dangerous — they come with mothers who will kill you. 😛
I’m fine. Just wishing the spring would really get here soon — I’m very, very ready for green.
Thalaina selenaea – this one’s kinda pretty.
It is. The pattern is nifty (but still not as cute as dirty, wet puppies).
They were being photographically elusive today.
Much better. I can start my day now. 🙂
Glad we could help.
Keres, everybody’s getting a new name – what about Gargantua? Have I missed it?
No you haven’t missed it. She’s going to her new home in Queensland today (I have to have her at the airport by 11:20). I’ll let you know what her new owners decide to call her. Since her new mum is Spanish speaking and half Basque (Pyrs originated with the Basque sheep hearders), I’m expecting her to get a Basque name.

Oh they are so fluffy.

Have a good YAHD!
I’ll have to get into town to enjoy the blooms.
Except the maple flower buds and some signs of buds on the dogwoods, there isn’t much happening in the woods yet. But the early appearance of the maple buds and the daffodils give me hope of soon-to-arrive green.

Oh, and the sunset wasn’t half bad. Especially given that opposite it in the eastern sky was a double rainbow.
Forget “not half bad” — it’s double good.
I’m ready for some green too. These sunny but just a wee bit too chilly days aren’t quite doing it for me.
It’s warmed up here so I hope that’s coming your way.
Waving good morning to all.
Hi boran! It’s still pretty chilly here, how about up your way?
It’s sunny, but windy and cold. At least it’s not snowing. 😉
It looks to be a nice day here in the Valley but it started out at 28 degrees. I’m still waiting to see the beautiful blooms that IVG has over at his place.
Any thoughts on spelling? I like the one “l” spelling, but we could go with “Lillie” or “Lilly” instead.
Lillie would be different and then nobody would think she was named for a flower.
I’ll take it up with the boss when she gets back from Canberra tomorrow.
In the mean time Lili/Lily/Lillie/Lilly is sleeping inside for the first time since she no longer has another puppy to snuggle with.
Of course there’s always Lilly von Schtupp.
I saw that movie in a really white-bread-and-mayonnaise part of town and I was the only person in the theater who laughed when they said her name. And Madeline Kahn was a genius (every time she was on SNL, its laugh-quotient went up by an order of magnitude); I miss her.
Madeline was da bomb. And yeah, I think I was the only one to get that joke as well. I miss her too.
That’s really funny that no one else got the joke.
I hope she’s not too sad.
She’s sticking close. Hopefully Luna and I will be company enough.
Well I hope you all snuggle up and give each other bunches of love. 🙂
I love Pink Martini! What a great name! I like it even better now.
I like 2-L Lilly…My favoritest teacher ever was Miss Lilly.
And when you get a minute, one of those puppy pictures above would be perfect for a new cafe. 🙂
Give me a second… 🙂
