So you guys are both going, too? I hope you have digital cameras. I expect photos. If they’re too embarrassing to post, email them. In the meantime, here’s a handy link.
Oh, c’mon, maryb! I want to see your smiling face! I swear, I won’t breathe a word about it to another living soul!! (help me out here, boran — you’re the one with the camera).
I’d like to go, but I’m not quite fit for traveling yet. Instead, I’m just going to haunt the net, pestering everyone. Between the video streaming on Air America, the blogging, and the instant messaging, t’ll almost be like I’m there!
I’d LOVE email updates! But only if you’re on the computer anyway. I don’t want you to give it a second thought otherwise — have fun!! I mean, unless you have some really freakish celebrity sighting or catch a blogger in a compromising position (y’know, like if you go to your room and Boo is passed out on your floor in his boxers). In that case, drop everything and email me asap.
You’d be so disappointed in me, I can never identify celebrities. One time Al Franken was having dinner at the table next to me and the friend I was eating with was ready to choke me because I didn’t know who he was. But if someone points out a freakish celebrity, I’ll let you know. And yes, I’d recognize George Clooney 🙂
OK, let me amend my request. If Clooney is there I do NOT want to hear about it. I’d be heartsick — I don’t think I could take the envy. Anyone else, let me know.
Well, thinking of you DID cause me to watch those last three minutes. I just hadn’t watched the whole show so I had no idea who those people were. The girl who DIDN’T get kicked off got a real dressing down. Not living up to top model standards etc. But she has a chance to turn it around. whew.
Olivia, I’m not sure why you think you will be denied entry into the U.S. through customs and immigration at O’Hare Airport but I seriously think that you are overreacting. If you don’t come to meetup you’ve let the terrorists win. 🙂
If you did know, you’d be the first. Sometimes even I’m not sure!
What I’m clumsily referrring to is a book put out by the Lost people. It’s called Bad Twin and is the story of twin brothers, sons of the wealthy Widmore family. The name has been stamped on some of the stuff on the island. In the last episode, it turned out Desmond’s true love was a Widmore, and her father is the one who tried to bribe him.
They released the book not long ago, and have launched an online game for the summer. There’s stuff like the site you linked to and hints in commercials, etc.
Yikes! I’m glad I asked. I’ve seen the commercials and been to several of the web sites, but I totally missed all the references to the book. Was it mentioned in a site I missed?
Here’s the book at Powell’s. I forget how the word got out about it, but, iirc, the “author” was supposed to have been on the plane and this book was the manuscript Sawyer was reading in one of the episodes.
There’s a lot of discussion on the net, but I like the TVgasm forums. Here’s the one for Lost, but it does have some spoilers.
If you get the book, let me know! I have a friend I hope is going to buy it, then I’ll borrow it after.
Ah, that’s how I got addicted to “All My Children” in the late 70s and early 80s. Never saw the show at all for years and years. But, a guy at work went home for lunch everyday to let his dogs out and he told “The Story” every afternoon when he got back.
Tester 5,615–2,806. Its 2-1 for Tester now.
Tester 4,706–2,459 Morrison. These are all absentee, and I don’t want to get over-confident, but how could Morrison really come back from an absentee deficit like this?
Tester 3,726–2,021 Morrison. Wow–great results for Tester so far. This might be over before CA-50 gets going.
Tester 1,878–Morrison 1,453. Good start for Tester, but it is early. Just so you know, I added the results on this page to the absentee totals from Yellowsotne County , a Morrison stronghold.
Polls have closed in Montana. Follow results at this website . Join the local crowd over at Left in the West .
CA-50
Reports of low turnout .

The Democratic nominee for Governor in Alabama will be Lucy Baxley.
The Democratic nominee for Governor in South Dakota will be Jack Billion . That will be a big state this year, and he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders.
In Alabama , Roy Moore is getting crushed, 67-33, in the Republican primary for Governor.
The NRCC claimed they would be leading by 10,000 votes after the absentees, because 10,000 more R’s voted absentee than D’s. However, they are only leading by 3,000 votes.
Kos has some results up, apparently from the absentee ballots. Bilbray (R) — 20, 448; Busby (D) — 17, 329.
This is MUCH better than predicted in the area for absentee ballots. San Diego, historically, has been so damned Republican it’s like a petri dish for all their dumbass ideas — they’re always on the brink of bankruptcy. We should do a case study or something.
And the 50th is a very wealthy area outside of San Diego, so not a Democratic stronghold. I find these numbers very encouraging.
Dada, I’m not there anymore, but it’s my home state so I still take an interest. We had some news today in my current home, Washington — a local wingnut who has been really successful getting hideous initiatives on the ballot was pushing an anti-gay initiative. He didn’t get enough signatures to get it on the ballot — yay!
Have some good friends in Bozeman and I’m sure they’re ecstatic. and they’re always telling me that MT. isn’t as red as people think…actually, they have a state gov. history of being democratic…it’s the national offices that have been the problem.
I’m trying to hold it together … but all that time spent in a small room w/ piles of journal articles is making me go squirrely … 🙂 I’m practically begging people who wander by to come in and talk … which is an anomaly …
You need to take more frequent, short breaks…go look out a window or walk around outside, if your building is in a nice spot.
That really helps me get thru unpleasant tasks…set short term goals…”I’m going to do this thing-or whatever- then short recess…I think it actually improves my efficiency at tasks I’d really prefer not to do…your milage may vary…:{)
Sleepy today, woke up way to early and couldn’t get back to sleep…rarely have that problem.
Today I did that d … next to our bldg, is a public park/community flower garden. I brought my camera and spent an hour in heaven … Big drawback though: didn’t want to come back inside. 🙂
Is this one kicking up as much dust as the dust storm that devoured Phoenix earlier this evening? I was watching Countdown and they showed a cloud of red dust that looked like it was going to obliterate Phoenix.
the “rain” that was driving the wind from that dust-storm. It’s so dry here that I’m not at all suprised to see that wall of zero-visibility dirt engulf the Valley. I hate it when the clouds move in, thunder and lightning abound, and not a drop falls. Apparently most of it evaporated before hitting the ground. Another miss…
I think that has some of the best improvisational rhythm guitar ever recorded…plus some pretty awesome lead guitar too. Just a shame he can’t sing worth a damn.
John Morrison has conceded the race in Montana. Jon Tester is officially the Democratic candidate for US Senate in Montana, and considering that Conrad Burns is as corrupt as the road from Missoula to Miles City is long, Tester is on his way to Washington. (Fingers crossed.)
We now return you to your regularly scheduled symposium*, already in progress.
* You do know, of course, that “symposium” comes from Latin roots meaning “drinking party”?
thanks for the update, Omir. The results are taking a long time for the CA-50 race. I’ve got my mind of Alohaleezy and SanDiegoDem this evening who were getting inundated with ads on tv, signs, door knockers, etc.
LOL…you should have seen Oakland’s Mayor race. Far left liberal, moderate liberal, and moderate liberal with some business interest. It was a hoot. :>)
Yeah, Burns has deep pockets, but all Tester really has to do is do what he’s done: stump around Montana, let people get to know him and hear his message, and realize that he’s the real deal.
Of course I’m sure the subject of Jack Abramoff will never come up . . .
It would be really cool. I never saw any write in effort for her, but since she challenged DiFi earlier and threatened to run against her, it seemed the obvious choice, since it will be a cold day in hell before I vote for that woman again.
Drink Special: the Smashing Pumpkin
You really ARE the best blog bartender.
and my swollen head won’t fit in the lounge anymore.
I can act like your boss <duck>
sense. I keep plying you with drinks as you continue flashing more money in my direction. This could work out.
a slavedriver. Now you tell me she flashes money at you? singles?
I dance like a (Green) monkey.
This scenario just calls for a good employment lawyer. You could be rich.
The correct term is blogtender.
hi boran2, what’s up?
You still comin’ to sin city on Friday?
Yep. I get in about 9:30 so I’ll miss a lot of the morning stuff. But I figure I can sneak in late. It’s probably like ABA section meetings.
By the time I get there you’ll know everybody there. <sigh>
Yep, all 1500 or so.
That’s a good sized crowd. For some reason I thought it was only about 1,000. I’m glad they’re getting a good turnout.
So then we’re both attorneys? Yikes, that ought to make for some stimulating conversation. 😉
Well, let’s not talk specific laws and keep it to generalities and we’ll be fine 🙂
To tell you the truth, I don’t find law all that interesting. I know that puzzles some people.
So you guys are both going, too? I hope you have digital cameras. I expect photos. If they’re too embarrassing to post, email them. In the meantime, here’s a handy link.
Cheapo Vegas
No digital camera. Sorry. And if boran2 has one he’d better point his away from me.
How come you’re not going?
Oh, c’mon, maryb! I want to see your smiling face! I swear, I won’t breathe a word about it to another living soul!! (help me out here, boran — you’re the one with the camera).
I’d like to go, but I’m not quite fit for traveling yet. Instead, I’m just going to haunt the net, pestering everyone. Between the video streaming on Air America, the blogging, and the instant messaging, t’ll almost be like I’m there!
Are you taking a laptop? 😉
I don’t know. Probably. I hate lugging laptops on trips. Although now I have a fairly lightweight one.
You want e-mail updates?
I’d LOVE email updates! But only if you’re on the computer anyway. I don’t want you to give it a second thought otherwise — have fun!! OK, but since I’m sure that I wouldn’t be the only one to see him, you’re probably going to find out about it anyway 😉
I bet the only celebrities are blogger geeks and people running for president. Not too exciting IMO.
I mean, that looks good!
here’s a beer for you
um. Beer. (sigh)
Sorry guys,
fell asleep and now going to bed.
I’ve decided I want to be Veronica Mars. It’s the next best thing to Nancy Drew.
I agree. Only, now that I think about it, Veronica has a more problematic past than Nancy. Plus, wasn’t Nancy rich?
Yeah, Nancy’s dad paid for everything she wanted to do. But I’m not greedy. Veronica’s OK by me.
That poor blond chick on America’s top model got kicked off. And I don’t even watch the show.
If you don’t watch the show, how do you know? (was it the blonde with the Southern accent?)
Just saw the last 3 minutes before Veronica started. I don’t remember if she had a southern accent.
Dang, I thought maybe all my yapping had piqued your curiosity and then you’d be sucked in and I’d have someone to share the madness with.
Well, thinking of you DID cause me to watch those last three minutes. I just hadn’t watched the whole show so I had no idea who those people were. The girl who DIDN’T get kicked off got a real dressing down. Not living up to top model standards etc. But she has a chance to turn it around. whew.
Have you seen the news tonight? There’s NO way this story is going to be good for border x-ing.
no, what happened?
You know … blowing up Parliament Hill here in Ottawa, kidnapping the PM, beheading him live on CBC …
I think the wall’s going up as we speak.
Olivia, I’m not sure why you think you will be denied entry into the U.S. through customs and immigration at O’Hare Airport but I seriously think that you are overreacting. If you don’t come to meetup you’ve let the terrorists win. 🙂
Are there any Lost fans here?
sorry
Thanks for the link! My resolve not to buy the book, Bad Twin, is weakening by the day.
Do I know what you’re talking about? I mean, I don’t know if I know what your talking about.
If you did know, you’d be the first. Sometimes even I’m not sure!
What I’m clumsily referrring to is a book put out by the Lost people. It’s called Bad Twin and is the story of twin brothers, sons of the wealthy Widmore family. Does it really exist? Do you have links? Wow!
Here’s the book at Powell’s. I forget how the word got out about it, but, iirc, the “author” was supposed to have been on the plane and this book was the manuscript Sawyer was reading in one of the episodes.

Oh, my! I’ll see if I can get them to order it at the library.
Are you going to read it?
Oh, I’d totally read it if I got my hands on a copy (how did I not think of the library?!?).
then you could do a book review on eat4today 🙂
(snort)
You don’t even follow it!
I don’t need to follow it — I hear everyone else talking about it.
Besides some of your readers may follow it 🙂
Ah, that’s how I got addicted to “All My Children” in the late 70s and early 80s. Never saw the show at all for years and years. But, a guy at work went home for lunch everyday to let his dogs out and he told “The Story” every afternoon when he got back.
So I knew the ins and outs of everything.
It made for a weird party trick.
I used to know everything that happened on American Idol for the same reason, but the person who talked about it quit and now I’m in the dark.
Make a request, most will order anything a patron requests. And you could probably check on line right now.
And I just took my own advise! We have it and I put a hold on it. And it’s available!
Me! Although I’ve seen enough flashbacks to last me a lifetime.
Have you been following the fake commercials?
I think I might feel a nap coming on… wake me up in time for The Daily Show!
And of course the most interesting to me, California, will be the slowest in coming
No Ca. yet…
from MYDD,
It’s nice to know Roy Moore is getting crushed. Wonder what’s with the low turnout in CA.
Well, the 50th is pretty Republican. Hopefully, they’re all so disgusted and/or embarrassed and/or crushed that they’re just sitting this one out.
apparently w/ 40K votes counted [absentee?] Busby trails by 3K…
this Site supposedly will be posting results, but I get a blank screen….
also, Live Blogging at Trail Mix GOTV.
Good luck out there!
If it’s heavily republican you’d expect the absentee to go republican. Iffy swing voters don’t bother to vote absentee.
This from MyDD:

cool, I’m glad the 35 people who live in Montana are doing the right thing 🙂
And would you take a quick look at that link I sent the other night and tell me if you can read the font …

snorenomore … interesting … gotta see that.
I think IVG said he’d be here tonight, but the last time I said that you skedaddled off to bed … 😉
well, I’m jumping in cold at my usual late hour! I haven’t read the up comments as there are so many, so forgive my ignorance!
Why do I keep thinking it is Friday! We’re not bloody close yet! ;>)
BTW: I wrote in Cindy Sheehan for California Senator today on my PAPER ballot. It was really nice to see no machines at my polling place.
Did you get back to sleep last night?
I did thanks to y’all, though I was pretty wiped today. I’ll tell more on the whole KamaKid thing next lounge.
it would be cool if Cindy got a measurable write-in number as a protest to DiFi. I’m getting the 24/7 Hookah Lounge together so I’ll be back in a bit.
It would be really cool. I never saw any write in effort for her, but since she challenged DiFi earlier and threatened to run against her, it seemed the obvious choice, since it will be a cold day in hell before I vote for that woman again.
Come on over to the 24/7 Lounge
