Good morning, all!
A fresh cafe!
And the image tells me; tranquility.
Beautiful.
That was my view when I got up this morning. Definitely tranquil. 🙂
Consider yourself lucky – that is a beautiful place to retreat to.
though it looks like “everybody” is elsewhere.
Won’t be around much today but here’s a drive-by vacation picture.
Sawtooth Lake, Idaho
Hi Andi!
Looks like you guys are in a wonderful spot.
How is the trip so far?
We were in that wonderful spot on Monday; we’re back home now. The trip was very good but there were wildfires throughout Idaho which, though none were too close, caused a lot of haze which didn’t clear out until the last couple of days (thanks to a soaking rain which gave us one very wet hike). But even haze can’t dim the beauty of places like the one in the pic.
And the dogs are pointing out I owe them a local hike.
See ya later.
You will tell us more of your hikes soonest possible.
Have a great walk with the dogs!
poo. 🙁
That’s a very pretty spot. Where is it?
Oops. I just saw the caption. Must have my coffee.
Beautiful! Looking forward to more…
We’ve got plenty but we haven’t really gone through them yet.
How’s your vacation going?
It’s going well. I like coming to the same place year after year…we have the whole routine down, so it’s very relaxing. Bike, swim in the surf, paddle in the sound, eat, sleep, repeat. 🙂
Today’s gratuitous morning photos (and yes, it’s a tad overcast, but I like it that way):
Ah those are just lovely and look so relaxing. I especially like the bottom one.
Hope you keep having the fine time.
Thanks. We’re off to a good start.
I’m looking forward to seeing more of your photos. So far, your trip looks like it was awesome.
When does Jim go back to school?
Jim’s back at school the middle of August. He can’t wait. /sarcasm.

In the 70th minute of the match: Iraq leads Saudi Arabia 1-0.

The office of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said in a statement that it had planned to send a Cabinet delegation to the game, but that it was not possible to organize a charter flight due to technical issues related to “the flight’s path and overflight permissions by countries through which the plane would have to cross en route to Jakarta.”
The jubilation over the ascension of the team known as the “Lions of the Two Rivers” to Sunday’s final in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the quarterfinals and semifinals gave Iraqis a rare respite from the daily violence. The victorious run sent men of all ages cheering and dancing in the streets in what politicians said was a show of unity that proved Iraqi factions could come together.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
Ugh. The horrors of going back to work after vacation are upon me.
Good morning, Andi!
You’ll get through this horrible adjustment – just give it a couple of weeks…
indeed. 🙂
Another vacation photo (to remind me that I hafta go to work if I want to be able to pay for ’em).
Ants Basin, White Cloud Mountains, Idaho
Good morning, Andi!
The scenery is fabulous.
Could you smell the smoke? The haze is quite obvious.
Both the haze and the smell of smoke were really strong for several days. Both finally cleared out toward the end of the week when there was a good soaking rain (and a not so good soaking hike).
Ah, the wet hike. Haven’t had one for many years, but can easily imagine you and Jim on the trail, soaking wet.
Pictures?
Well, it just so happens I have one I took while we stood under a tree to dry out a little (and no, we didn’t take any pictures of us soaking wet — we’d rather not have any lasting memories of that.)
Now that The Boy is out of touch for 22 days I am reading about several lightning-sparked wildfires spreading rapidly through western Montana. Eek.
CBtE lived through ice storms and being lost in the mist…I’m sure Nature Boy is having the experience of his life.
(((SN)))
Good morning all, gotta run.
hi/bye!
Hi and bye!
I’m hungry and bored. Play with me. 🙂
i’m about to take a shower, but here’s a panda.
Have a sandwich too.
Rookie
did you see the pinwheel pasta salad?
Rule #1 – always know your audience. Care to make a bet on whether pinwheel pasta salad will trump creamy chocolate frosting? 😉
Oh my God! I can’t believe I forgot that I posted a whining, lonely comment and then I left and missed pandas and chocolate frosting and other goodies!
Wah!
Aw thanks, Manny. You know how to treat a girl right.
Hope you’re havin’ a good evening, SN!
Andi? Ask? Family Man? Cabin Girl…are you at the coffee shop yet?
Good morning, SN!
Just busy with the news. Taking off today!
Yay for a day off! Are you watching/listening to Rumsfeld on cpan3? What a creep.
Are the asklets still overseas?
No cspan3 on my cable 🙁
Yup, they actually went to Sweden today for a month. Flew down from Oslo to Copenhagen by themselves and were picked up by an aunt there. Just a short drive over the bridge to Sweden.
Wow, they have such adventurous summers! How are you doing having so much time off?
::sneaks quick break from work::
I’m out of town — had a 6:00 a.m. flight so I’m spending the day trying not to yawn.
::back to work::
They’re very exited about the whole summer (and realize they are kind of privileged – having relatives spread out all over).
Any feed-back from your son?
Nope and not going to get any. I keep looking at different webcams from around Montana, but I don’t know exactly where he is so it’s just a guess. I guess Mom is having more of an adventure than he is….
I’m here, albeit a day late…
How are you doing? Will you be getting a midway-point update from OB?
I wish you were here to have coffee with – the weather is so much better than last year.
Good morning all. It will be very hot here in the Valley for the next few days. Too bad our little pool deflated. 🙁
Good morning, boran!
I’ve seen the forecast, it’s brutal!
curly and I plan to escape to the Berkshires Thursday night. A bit cooler, if not much, up there.
I’m out of town and won’t get back home to very late tonight so this just a drive-by “Hi”.
See ya all Friday.
Good morning, Andi!
Sounds like a long day.
Have a safe trip back!
Hi everybody!
Another sunny day here.
Morning CG.
Hope you’re having a good time and the pictures look great.
Ask don’t work too hard.
Andi have a safe trip home.
Welcome back, Lazarus.
Morning SN.
Geeze you sleep for a little while and people think you’re gone. 🙂
How are things going with you?
I’m getting ready to drive to Cincinnati tomorrow for my niece’s wedding on Saturday – and to have lunch with the Fs! Also watching news on the bridge collapse – what a nightmare.
Glad you’re feeling better.
You be careful on that drive and have fun with the F’s.
I’ve been watching it since yesterday. It is a nightmare.
Thanks for the thoughts.
went kayaking and biking to the old cemetery this am, played some board games and cooled off, and here are some more pictures before we do a late afternoon beach jaunt…
The clouds here are cool:
One of the local “roads”:
And I love the cutouts in these stair risers:
Ooh, cool! Glad the weather is cooperating and you’re having a good time with the guys.
Good morning all. It will be 95 here today in the Valley. I’ll keep my fan running.
Morning Boran.
It’s supposed to be 95 down here too. What happened with the mild summers up there? 🙂
Good morning, FM. I hope that you’re feeling a bit better.
There are no mild days anymore. We go right from winter into summer.
You’ve got our weather now. Maybe you should think of moving down here since the weather is the same, but living is much cheaper. The only thing you’d have to worry about is a hurricane every now and then. 🙂
but my body didn’t seem to care much and the dogs don’t care at all. So I’m off my morning walk.
Hi and bye.
CG, vacation pics are wonderful!
Good morning, Andi!
Late, as in close to midnight?
curly and I escaped the city heat last night and drove up to the Berkeshires. A cool 65 this morning (headed for 89).
65 is a massive improvement over the city, from what I’ve heard from home.
How are you? I see the asklets are having the most exciting summer.
I’m well, though a stressful situation at work remains.
Spoke with the kids yesterday – they’re now with several of their cousins on the mother’s side. One also came up from Ethiopia for the summer, so it must be a merry bunch.
Sorry about the work situation. Is it ikely to be resolved, or is it one of those things that drags on forever?
It must be interesting to have cousins all over the world and get together with them. Mine were all from Jersey and PA, so there wasn’t all that much cultural diversity when we got together…although South Jersey is like another planet in some ways. 🙂
We’re just looking at the pics you posted previously and curly asks where it is – you’ve mentioned it before, but I can’t recall.
Ocracoke Island.
Oh shoot, I’m up early and you’re already gone. Have a great walk.
Good morning Andi, ask, and CG.
It appears I’m going to have to get back into my early mode, or set my clock to catch everyone. Hope everyone’s Friday is starting good.
Good morning, all. Another warm one (95ish) today in the Valley. Maybe the lawn can wait.
Good morning Boran.
When it’s in the mid-90’s the lawn can always wait. That’s the reason down here that I think the lawn shouldn’t be mowed until the middle of Sep. It looks like we’ll be in the mid 90’s until then.
Instead of mowing the lawn, you should sit back with a cool drink and try to think the grass down. Might not work, but it could provide a good nap after awhile. 🙂
Good morning FM. That sounds like a good plan. September sounds good. 😉
Good morning all. Weekend is finally here and it’s gonna be hot!
Hot one here too. But I get to do a way cool thing — SN and I meeting over in Cincy for lunch (she’s there for a family wedding).
Geeze some people get to have all the fun. 🙂
Just about the whole family is here this weekend, so it few to none naps for me.
I think you should show them your giving side and be very generous about letting them do the chores around the house.
Have a good one. I’ve got to get some things done (like go for a walk with the dogs) before we leave.
See ya.
Ya’ll have a good time today.
Good morning, FM and Andi!
Sounds like a busy day ahead, FM.
curly just got up, and coffee is ready.
Yep it will be busy. I’ve got to make a trip into the city to get groceries this morning and then see what happens from there.
Are ya’ll enjoy your cool weather in the Berkshires?
Enjoy all the company!
Nights and mornings are cool – afternoon and evening is hot and sticky. We had quite a lightening show last night.
Yep I’ll enjoy the company for about a week. 🙂
You and curly have a good w/e. I’m heading out to get ready to go grocery shopping.
See ya.
Good morning all. I’m still in the throes of an evil stomach bug, as is Mrs. Dem, but feel strong enough to type a few words. Nice vacation pics everyone.
Good morning. Sorry about the stomach bug, and I hope you feel better soon.
I’m having my morning coffee at the cafe and checking email while I’m here. Today’s our last full day of vacation, and we head home tomorrow morning.
