New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says he’s never felt more pressure to win a football game than the one they play today. That’s kind of odd since the Jets have played in the AFC Championship Game two years in a row, and just missed out on going to the Super Bowl. But I guess I understand his desire to win for the New York fans. Still, the silliness of it is made plain when you think about the fact the other New York football team (the New York Giants) is playing in Washington against the Redskins. If the Giants win, won’t they ruin the 9/11 commemoration for all the Washington-based folks?
I haven’t watched any 9/11 stuff this week or today. Remembering that day makes me sick. Remembering what resulted makes me even sicker. I can’t stomach even the bits that seep into the football coverage. I’m glad the Giants are playing in Washington so I don’t have to look at Rudy Giuliani’s ugly mug all throughout the game. The Giants should win not for the New York fans but to punish the do-nothing Congress for screwing up our credit-rating and tanking the stock market.
Too bad I have to wait until 4:15 for the beating to commence.
I am FUCKING TIRED of 9/11. I wrote a diary about it.
At church today, we have a sharing stones thing. I echoed the minister. She talked about hope. I said “The last decade has been a decade of fear, of failure. We were attacked and had bad things happen to us. We did bad things to other people.
In the next decade, we will LOOK FORWARD. It’s time to end this fear thing, the endless wallowing in failure and in defeat. I am tired of 9/11. I won’t do 9/11 again.”
Obama needs to run a “America’s best days lie ahead” campaign.
I’m sorry, Booman, but this nitpicky Italian can’t let it go any more — especially since those presidential aspirations are still coursing through the man’s veins like Viagra.
It’s G i u liani, (gee-oo), not G u i (gwee).
How about Ghouliani?
Even better!
I don’t really watch football, not even my beloved Saints, so I really don’t have a dog in this fight, but I just can’t root for the Cowboys. So whoever beats the Cowboys are my team. So go Jets!
As for 9/11, I was in class at University of New Orleans. When we got out of class we all rushed to tv and I couldnt believe my eyes.
I didnt not know anyone personally, and I thought I’d never see anything more horrible and then 4 years later Katrina hit my city and the horror was more close to home.
I also like to take time to remember all of the service men and women who lost there lives in service during the 2nd gulf war both those who were already enlisted and those who enlisted as a result of 9-11, 2 if my cousins & of course Pat Tillman

The Washington Pro football team deserves to lose every game they play because of their denigration of the indigenous people of this country.
Bonnie,
That is just one of the many reasons the Washington “Professional” football team deserved to lose every game they play.
Coming in a close second: “Redskins Wives.” When I lived in DC, a program with that name aired every Sunday, featuring a treacly human “interest” profile of a different woman married to a team member each week.
“Missy is a former cheerleader who loves to cook and spend time with her children.”
OT, but President Obama will announce tomorrow that he is sending the America Jobs Bill to Congress tomorrow evening.

Well, that didn’t go the way I wanted it to.
I think you’re in for a rough year. I didn’t get to see the game, but the Giants have so many key players injured I don’t see how they’re going to be competitive in that division. Philadelphia and Dallas (despite their loss tonight) are looking really strong.
In other football news, the Lions actually looked pretty good! I don’t have any illusions that they’re going to win that division or anything, but it’s nice to be able to watch a competent team for a change.
And in other football news…did you see that Michigan / Notre Dame game Saturday night?!? THAT WAS AWESOME!!!
The Giants will get better. We were missing both starting DE’s last night, both of whom are Pro-Bowlers. It cost us because we didn’t get enough pressure on Grossman. The defense played remarkably well considering that our play-caller tore his ACL in practice this week and we started a 6th-rounder (Greg Jones of Michigan State) at MLB. With no off-season and a shortened camp, how is a rookie supposed to be able to run the defense? But they did a nice job overall. They didn’t give up any big runs. And they didn’t have very many missed assignments. They just gave Grossman too much time back there and he carved them up on a couple of drives.
On offense, the line will get better. But Manning needs more targets.
I applaud your optimism, but they just got their asses handed to them by Rex Grossman.
Rex Grossman!!!
I think they have a legit shot to be above .500 by week 10. But look at how they end the season – that’s a murderers’ row! Philly, @New Orleans, Green Bay, @Dallas, Washington, @NY Jets, Dallas. I don’t see them winning more than 2 of those games.
I would say that the bits the seep into the football coverage are the worst of the lot.
I quit the Cowboys-Jets game when the Cowboys scored to make it 24 – 10. Figured it was all over.
And then the Jets score 17 points to win. I musta missed a good one.
The Skins looked good in winning. I wondered why the NY coach didn’t play Brandon Jacobs a lot more.
Antrelle Rolle decided to spear a guy lying on his back in the neck, so instead of a 4th-and-2, the Redskins get 15 yards and a first down. Then they score to go up 14 and the game is over.
2 out of 3 is a good start.
We’ll see about the Vikes. They looked good at the start, and then they fell apart.
GB was strong against a strong team. I may put a little money on them.
Bears were amazing. They will have a good year. The central division is gonna be a dogfight.
