John Prescott’s use of the C-word about the Bush administration will remind Tony Blair that before he headed for the beach, he faced a cabinet revolt over his support for George Bush on the Middle East.
The uneasy ceasefire in the Lebanon bought him a breathing space, but he will return to a party still seething with anger at the way he has allowed Britain to be seen as “Bush’s poodle”.
Jack Straw, the former foreign secretary, led the doubters in the Cabinet but his concerns were echoed by loyalists such as David Miliband and later by Hilary Benn, the International Development Secretary.
Minister after minister is said to have urged Mr Blair to break with the Bush administration at his summit with President Bush in the White House and publicly criticise the scale of the Israeli bombing. Mr Blair is reported to have told allies that he did not need convincing about the concern among the Muslim communities in Britain but he felt it imperative to use his close relationship with the President to push for the revival of the Middle East road map.

OK, a bit of wishful thinking on the part of Israel’s MSM or official Knesset report.
However the latest report by Centre Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI) in Amsterdam —
The number of registered anti-semitic incidents in the Netherlands in 2005, showed a sharp decline compared to the previous year: from 327 to 159. This data is reported in the Annual Report of CIDI on anti-semitism (pdf file). The downward trend is a continuation, started in the year 2003.
Report will also be published in English.
The official headline of the press release is however:
War In Lebanon Causes Sharp Rise in anti-Semitism
CIDI registered in the period July-August 9 2006, 105 anti-semitic incidents. This involved threats by telephone, emails, chalking slogan ‘Juden raus‘ and damaging a synagogue.

Oui, thanks for the H/T.
Here is the analysis from The Times of London (UK) on Prescott’s clarifying statement: ” a careful rather than outright denial that he ever uttered those words.”
Thanks for this. Love the headline. And today, Prescott is in more trouble, for allegedly calling Bush a cowboy. I think he was more accurate with simply “crap.” Let’s not denigrate cowboys!
In my part of the world we definitely do not diss cowboys. Heck, some of them are downright liberal (including a good friend and recently retired colleague). 🙂
Got to admit the Brits do have a way with words, eh?
When the Brits begin using the F bomb in print, things are tense.
The Daily Mail, UK reveals Tony Blair broadly supports John Prescott that “Bush is crap” and ‘feels betrayed by Bush on Lebanon’

TERRORISTS are “rolling around the caves of Pakistan, laughing” at Britain’s response to the terror threat, an airline boss said last night as he gave the government a seven-day deadline to relax restrictions or face legal action.
Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary described some of the security measures as “farcical, Keystone Kops-like and completely insane and ineffectual”.
Pilots also attacked the measures, which ban them from taking toothpaste on to aircraft, and said subjecting flight crews to the same restrictions as passengers made “no sense at all”.
An estimated 800,000 passengers have been disrupted by the chaos caused by new measures, which resulted in massive queues at airports and led to the cancellations of about 1,800 flights.

The Tories have gained over the last month while support for Labour has fallen heavily (5%) in the wake of the recent alleged terror plot against airlines. An overwhelming majority of voters appear to pin part of the blame for the increased threat on Tony Blair’s policy of intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan.
David Cameron has succeeded in making it acceptable for people to say they intend to vote Tory.
