I really never expected to associate the Mountain Dew soft drink with white women being raped by black goats. But I do. Guess who is to blame?

WTF?!?!?!
This is the 21st Century!
It is, isn’t it?
No one in the upper level at PepsiCo marketing, after looking at this ad before it was released, sat there, and thought to themselves, “Hmm… I wonder if this might be offensive to some folks? Maybe “Blah” people? Maybe women? Maybe to people who have a half-a-brain?”
Well, I suppose when your target market is younger white male fizzy-caffeine drink addicts, you might think it’s ok.
BUT IT’S NOT!
It’s really not.
N-O-T A-T A-L-L!!!!!
Yeah, I thought the guy who wrote the piece nailed the racism involved by pretty much missed the misogyny. And he didn’t even discuss how goats might feel about their portrayal.
It was not funny.
“Guess who is to blame?”
That’s easy — Obama.
Their ads have always been offensive to some group. They go out and perpetuate some horrible stereotype and get people talking. THis is nothing new for them.
I mean, aside from the fact that it tastes like (over-caffeinated) piss, I thought Dew’s original branding premise back in the day of parodying hillbillies was kind of offensive. Compared to this it looks positively enlightened.
The article’s comments, BTW, are a cesspool of hateful and “you’re the real racist!” type comments, just in case anyone doubted the author’s point that this ad appeals to racism. Companies like PepsiCo don’t make ads unless they think they’ll appeal to a lot of people in their target demographic. That target demographic is well-represented in the thread. Musta gotten a link from White Nationalism Today or something.
