I think I kinda mentioned that Israel’s attack on Lebanon was a bad idea that wouldn’t work and that would make things a lot worse. And while my suspicion on that score has been proven the following shows just how idiotic is was.
An annual poll of six Arab countries puts President George W. Bush at the top of the world’s ‘most disliked’ for the first time in the history of the poll, CNN International reported today.
According to the poll’s author, Shibley Telhami, past results have always placed the Prime Minister of Israel as the most disliked among Arabs. “In the past few years, the President of the United States has become number two. In the most recent survey, the striking thing is for the very first time in the Arab world the most disliked person is the President of the United States of America, and superceded the combined numbers for both the Prime Minister of Israel and his hated predecessor Ariel Sharon, who’s in a coma,” said Telhami.
The poll, which did not give those polled choices for the most liked and disliked, allowed people to suggest any person outside of their own country. In past years, France’s Chirac was chosen as the most liked person. This year, Arabs selected Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, because of the “black eye” given to Israel after they withdrew from their attack on Lebanon, according to the report.
For those of you who don’t know, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is a Shi’ite, while the vast majority of Arabs are Sunnis. And with current relations between Sunnis and Shi’ites at a longtime low, it is even more jarring to see Nasrallah considered the most liked person in the world by Arabs. Also, consider that you couldn’t vote for anyone from your own country. So no one from Lebanon voted for Nasrallah. That further limits the number of Shi’ites that could have voted for him.
As for Bush, being less popular than Olmert and Sharon combined is something I did not think any mere mortal could accomplish. All I can say is, “Nous sommes desoles que notre president soit un idiot. Nous n’avons pas vote pour lui.”
Ok, I’ll go for the cheap and easy comment…he really is a Uniter isn’t he. Amazing that the combined numbers of Olmert/Sharon don’t even beat him…way to go georgie.

To explain once again the need for democracy amongst the Arab populations and creation of more happiness (… for KBR, Bechtel, Halliburton, Exxon)
Karen Hughes' Mission: Accomplished ... or Not
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
I remember back when the pope died a commenter, remarking on the fact that bush received Boos and jeers at the funeral, made the brilliant remark; “You really have to be some kind of asshole to get booed at a funeral.
Surely the Imbecile in Chief’s elevation to the top of the “most reviled” list in the MidEast echoes that previous sentiment.
ha..I’d forgotten that and for some reason am today finding that remark hysterically funny…I guess anything that can give me a laugh about the Shrub is good. Beats my general attitude of screaming, crying, tearing my hair out and making the air turn blue in my apt.
I remember laughing out loud when I read that funeral comment! So funny and so true.
It’s kind of shocking to remember the outpouring of sympathy from the Arab world after Sept 11 in contrast to the attitude now. Really brings into focus just a part of everything Bush has thrown away on behalf of America.
The Arabs have higher expectations of Americans than of Israelis, I guess. Too bad for Bush: as he’s said recently, he likes low expectations.
…and it’s sad that my first ever comment in green has herpes…
Keep up the good work Booman 🙂
well he is the most disliked in America also by all Americans who have a brain.
bush “doesn’t govern by polls”.
of course he doesn’t; the kicker is he doesn’t explain just what he DOES base his so called governance on– and no, I don’t count the “God talks to me” bullcrap.
but as always actions speak louder than words– the no bid contracts to bu$hco crony corporations, billions of dollars airlifted to Iraq to be used as hush money and for bribes at the start of the war– it’s crystal clear what bush bases his governance on.
Bush is really soemthing.
He’s managed, somehow, to come up with a middle east ‘policy’ that harms everyone in the region: Bad for Israel, bad for the Arab countries, bad for the Palestinians, bad for the Iranians, bad for Jews in the rest of the world, and, of course, very bad for the USA.
It’s good for Halliburton, though
Jeez that’s bad. I mean that’s really bad. Anyone who can poll lower than Ariel Sharon? That’s like earthshakingly bad. Ariel Sharon after Sabra and Shatila and Bush is considered worse? Whew.
I’d sure hate to see the results of this poll if it were conducted in Israel where the respondents were Israelis. I bet Bush would be at the bottom there too.
