I pretty much ignored the Iowa Freedom Summit this weekend because I needed a break from stupid shit, but it was quite the spectacle. Mike Huckabee’s performance was emblematic of the rampant lunacy and incoherence on display:
“It was the best six and a half years of working with some of the greatest people on earth,” Huckabee said, going on at some length about how happy he was at the [FOX News] network. Huckabee then offered some of his trademark folksiness, like this: “If you’re gonna have some sausage, you’ve got to kill some pigs. And folks, there are a lot of people in America who want the sausage, they just don’t want to kill any pigs. We need to do some pig killing, to get to the sausage.”
In Iowa, “You kno’ its hard out here for a pig when you tryna get this money for the campaign.” If they’re not getting castrated, they’re getting killed.
WTH?….(what the Huckabee?)
It’s funny, though. As distasteful as it is, Huckabee’s metaphor does make sense if you apply it to certain issues. Nothing that Mike Huckabee would be talking about, of course, but take climate change. The sausage in this case is having a livable planet fifty years from now, and the pigs are the oil and coal companies.
Or you could say that the sausage is functioning government, and the pigs are the GOP. And so on. How this applies to fetal personhood, on the other hand, is a mystery.
Ha! Of course if Huckabee tried to unpack his statements in that context he’d be tossed out on his frontal lobe. None of the rhetoric these guys offer is unpackable, it’s just base noise.
I’m sure you saw this gem that Fred Hiatt ran:
End Obamacare, and people could die. That’s okay.
Yup.
Lots of nuts!
More nuts than a Planters warehouse!!!
Yup.
Lots of nuts!
More nuts than a Planters warehouse!!!
That’s one big-old ambiguous and slightly clueless dogwhistle, isn’t it.
If one didn’t know better one would think that the Rev. was advocating murdering Wall Street bankers and NYPD officers. That the farmers of Iowa were sharpening their pitchforks and readying their torches for the usual peasant rebellion.
But then, you know who Huckabee is really talking about, don’t you.
Or was he just begging folks to kill that pigskin and shell out some green?
Whatever it is, our useless media is sure it’s “folksy”!
Because a major American political party couldn’t be dangerous….
The other possibilities are:
A comment on the Razorbacks’ sorry performance this season.
Or the fact that Obamacare should have killed the private health insurance industry but didn’t because the people watched the legislation being made.
With the Huckster, neither of these is likely.
And then there’s trying to out-Joni Joni’s pig infatuation.
The GOP’s goin’ hog wild in Iowa! Gruppenfuhrer Joni paved the way! Squeal like a pig, lib’ruls!!
And what if I want eggs with my sausage? Or potatoes? You gotta break a few eggs, too! and shred a few potatoes! The analogies are endless, although who knows exactly what “end” Hucksterbee has in mind ? I guess the death of lib’ruls, perhaps in an IA slaughterhouse….
And where do the vegetarians fit in all this meaty analysis, Mike? They don’t want the goddam sausage at all!
That Palin speech was simply a sight to behold. I still cannot wrap my mind around the fact that I actually know breathing, thinking human beings with families, jobs and real-world experience in the things of life who still think that this woman is competent to be the President of this country
if fox news were a liberal outfit:
2016 they are going to be even crazier. Perry accused the BLS of cooking the unemployment numbers.
Their denial will grow with each positive job report.
And the fear mongering about anything will explode. Because of the economy recovers what really do they have to say?
