You know I’ve been wondering about this copyrighted stuff. Sometimes I see a picture on the net and want to pull it off for a comment, but I don’t know if it is or isn’t copyrighted.
Is that a picture you copyrighted or a copyrighted picture you used?
I think I’ve said it before, but for probably about 25 years I’ve kept a daily journal. Nothing detailed, just stuff I did or where I was. If I didn’t I couldn’t tell you what I did two days ago.
However, now with the blogs, I’ve pretty much know what I’m doing. But, I do still keep it going. It’s kind of fun to see the changes of only 5 years ago.
No not really. I’ve done two diaries here that were really more fun type things.
I really wish I had the expertise to do some serious writing, but I don’t know if I just haven’t gotten the courage up yet or just not prepared to go through something like defending my words.
Thank you alice and I think you have too. Being a blog whore again, but…
That’s one of the reasons I went ahead and opened it because I can start writing stuff I want and not worry if it’s up to standard at other blogs.
Just yesterday I was reading a debate between Boo and someone else and I thought, man they are so out of my league. I’m constantly amazed at how smart so many of the people here are.
And I’m even less of a argue-er, or more precisely bicker-er. Maxed out on bickering the first 18 years of my life, so don’t much care for it now.
I left dKos on account of the back and forth bickerings that would drift right and down across the screen. Like the old timers around here would say, “Life is too short…” for that sort of horse manure. It’s probably the one of the main reasons I stay at BT.
Someone comes on to me in “troll” fashion in one of my diaries I’d likely not reply more than once. Takes two to tango, if one refuses, then no tango, right?
Me too. I just learned how to post pics here last week. I get some positive comments on my pic posts, but I wonder if I should do more to give credit where due, or if I am otherwise crossing the line somehow?
I would guess that as long as we are not making money at this, and giving proper credit to the artist, we are OK.
I think you’re right. I haven’t been hosting the cafes that long and when I first began, I would go to Paintshop and make up stuff because I was afraid to use stuff off the net.
Things get easier as you go. I’ve only been on the net for about 5 months. I’m just learning myself a lot of things.
But, with NDD, dada, Andi and everybody else here, there is an abundance of help. If you’ve ever got any questions, everyone will be more than willing to help.
I see your point, but I’ve always thought if someone posts a picture on the net, then they want it to be seen and/or used.
I understand the copyright stuff and God knows I would never want to get into anything like that, so like I said I’m never sure. I know there have been a lot of pictures I would have loved to use, but didn’t.
But I like what you did with putting the copyright under your picture. It make it clear. A lot of pictures don’t.
since I have yet to see anyone else imbed a copyright in their file name. But then it’s easy to change a file name.
I think the law is that (even for some gadget that’s you might have invented) once you’ve given it away for free, you’ve lost exclusive rights to it. I’m fairly certain this is true with inventions, but it would seem the logic would follow with art too, like photos.
I’m just assuming that if I say it’s copyrighted then I could go back to that post and say, “see here it is, my declaration of ownership.”
I wonder if someone with more experience could enlighten us on all this. Maybe we ought to bring it up again later, if we don’t get an answer here.
That is be-you-tea-full NDD! You’re no slouch in the photography deptartment! I’ve yet to come up with anything that beautiful from the skies… <sigh> I’m much too grounded I guess. Such is my lot, being a dirt digger, lol.
NDD, I was about to go to bed, but the sun is coming up soon here and your picture inspired me a bit. It is a little cloudy in my town, but not enough to block the sun. I will hang out for a half hour or so more, just to watch the sun rise.
Actually we do have a couple of forests, the closest one (Pembina Forest) being in the very NE corner of the state.
Other than those two, and maybe the Turtle Mountain area, center of the state on Canadian border, all the natural growing trees are along rivers and creeks.
The rest htat are in the city and the around the farms, (called, shelter belts, [the Fs know this, ’cause they know the diff between churches and grain elevators, ha!])are planted by humans.
I hope to come back from this Easter weekend with some new material.
At the risk of being redundant, I’m going to post this pic again, in the hopes that Andi and NDD will see it. The same tulip I posted early yesterday afternoon, but now in full bloom…
This, I hope should brighten the coffee cart up a little bit!
per your request, NDD, here is the straight on shot…
Wait till the rest of the tulips get going… they’re budding like crazy now, and with the rains predicted for this weekend, it will only be a few days more!
It’s called “Olympic Flame,” and they’re just getting going today. We have about 200+ Darwins getting ready to put on their show, probably within the next week… red, yellow, purple, mixes… planted with daffodils and grape hyacinths around them… I’ll make sure you see some more, don’t worry.
waaay late, and I will pay for this late night indulgence, but I had so much fun staying up with you folks. I had to chuckle about the talk about signing checks up thread… I don’t even have any checks around anymore. Haven’t written one in about 3 years. I do all my banking and paying bills online now and love it. Makes me a much more organized person and I haven’t had a single problem with it… so I just eliminate the paper. Took me a while to get over the heebie jeebs and hurdles, but I wouldn’t do it any other way now. Not like that matters, but just thought I’d put my not so HO in on that.
guess I’m not quite ready for prime time. I was even disappointed when the banks quit mailing the cancelled check out. Now I just get a photo copy at reduced size no less. Purtineer need a magnifying glass to see any numbers on them.
I’ll be around today until about 2:00 my time so I’ll be able to help keep an eye of the cafe until then. And we’re taking the laptop to the seder to show the family the vacation pictures so we can dial in from mom’s at some point and check.
Don’t worry about staying up. I’ll check before I leave the seder to go home which just leaves about a 90 minute period unconvered. People can survive a full cafe for awahile. I’ll go ahead and send an email to the westcoast froggybottoms to ask them to check in if they can.
all 120 pages of it. And was doing real fine at learning new stuff until a spilled grape juice over it. Quick action by MS NDD salvaged the ms however.
I did figure out how to shut off the flash for doing macro shots. And a few other things.
printed to hard copy is actually much better than the manual that came with it, (of which I only have the Eh-spon-yole left) as that is about half paper size, so the print is harder to read.
Pry the space bar off. Compress and decompress the rubber piece a few times to see if they have any give left. If they don’t take the rubber pieces from keys that you don’t use very often and swap them.
I would like not to talk about these detailed (not sexual) dreams I keep having about my ex. One of the side effects of my medication is that I’m dreaming again…alot.
I can easily not talk about that. We can talk about how Jim needs a haircut really badly, knows he needs a haircut really badly, wants a haircut really badly and still can’t seem to go get a haircut (even though it is one the way home). Nah, boring.
I finally got the man to get a haircut this week. With his receding hairline when the front starts to grow he gets this Gerber baby swoop that drives me crazy.
We’re not going to the beach because one of the kids has to work and my daughter has a lot of reading to do for a paper that’s due next week.
With your description of the Seder meal and boran2’s diary and especially DTF’s description of his neighborhood and their Seder meal, I want to kidnap one of the Jews I see walking to synagogue (?) every Saturday, and ask them if I can come to their house this weekend.
We live on a really long and hilly street but I see them walk by every Saturday morning, and once they disappear over the hill I have no idea where they live but I assume it’s near me. There are quite a few, which surprised me. There’s a synagogue about 2 miles from here – the only one in town I think.
I am one of those unfortunate people who will die with a full head of hair. It’s doesn’t fit into my lifestye of slackdom. A haircut is just another thing that has to be done.
I agree with the Seder meal SN. I think it would be a wonderful experience.
Oh she’s dong fine. I told her last night if it got to hot she was going over to my sister’s house to sleep. She put her foot down and said no way.
My sister doesn’t hold back and tells her she needs to exercise, eat right and so on. I decided if I ever reach 80 no one is going to tell me what to eat and when to get up or anything else, so I don’t ride her about doing things.
Actually on Jews and Catholics. There are very many in my area and I’ve never seen any problems. I’ve been to Catholic services before, but never to Synagogue. I will agree with you in one respect. It’s very hard to be enlightened in this area.
She was so funny last night. She started out telling me that she had gone to a Leftover Crack concert in Charlotte when I noticed she had a few bruises on her arms. She said she was on the fringes of the mosh pit and kept her arms up as protection.
Later in the evening she mentioned there was a fight there, which are pretty rare at punk shows, apparently. Then she mentioned it was right next to her. Then she mentioned that it actually was her. Someone started punching her boyfriend and when he defended himself 3 other guys jumped on him, so Ryan (my fragile little girl) began punching one of them to get them off of her boyfriend.
She has bruises on her knuckles but she feels oddly empowered. The 3 guys got kicked out and the rest of the night was peaceful.
It was just funny how her story came out in tentative little pieces to gauge my reaction after each revelation.
It’s hard to worry after the fact. Punk shows seem scary to most people on the outside, but most punk kids are almost ‘straight edge’ which means they don’t drink or use drugs. They just dress weird.
She goes to 2 or 3 shows a year, it’s not a lifestyle. She just likes the music.
It’s the ones you don’t remember that could be the problem. You may have kids you don’t know about from all those Allman Bros. concerts where you got drunk before they even came onstage.
Morning, Family Man. Are you going to walk around in your undies today due to the heat?
We grew up without AC and when it got really hot my mom would put a bowl of ice in front of the fan and we’d all sleep on the floor trying to hog the breeze.
Mr. Nature is driving down to see his parents and my daughter is home from college and being extremely adorable and disconcertingly mature. So I’m expecting a really enjoyable weekend.
Morning everyone.
FM, you’re awesome! Gotta love those geezers in training…
I try, but it sure cuts in to my slack time. 🙂
To go back to something we were talking about earlier. The foxfire and robo-rater.
As a man who put great pride in doing as little as possible, both have made my life much easier.
I think you’ll like them when you get started.
I’m feelin’ sort of wild today anyway!

I always try to remember to say if one I use is not.
BTW, you’re still “froggybottom”…
Thanks, it’s hard to remember who I am sometimes. 😉

I really wish I had the expertise to do some serious writing, but I don’t know if I just haven’t gotten the courage up yet or just not prepared to go through something like defending my words.
I’m really not much of a debater.
I know the feeling…
For what it is worth, you have written some good comments FM.
Well, me neither.
And I’m even less of a argue-er, or more precisely bicker-er. Maxed out on bickering the first 18 years of my life, so don’t much care for it now.

I was reading a diary the other day and I kept wonder, why if it was so offensive to everyone, why is anyone commenting. It just kept the diary going.
It makes more sense to me if you don’t like something, just ignore it. It then goes away sooner.
sort of like everyone runs to see the car wreck, they just can’t resist being at the scene of the action.
I had never thought of it that way, but you’re right.
I know I kept going back just to see what new comments had been made.
I guess I got a guilty secret, but I love to read some flame wars. I’ve like the ones best over at orange.
I’ve seen us go through a couple of things here, but that saddens me, because I’ve come to know, like and respect so many people here.
I think people all thinks theirs will be the brilliant comment that will settle the issue forever and shut up their opponenets.
Good Morning, FM. Thanks for doing the cafe.
consumed by their own self-importance.
Nah that couldn’t be. I know I’m the most important person in the world, but I wouldn’t get into anything like that. 🙂
Your welcome Andi.
How’s the power holding out?
Me too. I just learned how to post pics here last week. I get some positive comments on my pic posts, but I wonder if I should do more to give credit where due, or if I am otherwise crossing the line somehow?
I would guess that as long as we are not making money at this, and giving proper credit to the artist, we are OK.

But, with NDD, dada, Andi and everybody else here, there is an abundance of help. If you’ve ever got any questions, everyone will be more than willing to help.
I know they have numerous times with me.;)
but I think for me, if it’s of a quality and style that it could be a contemporary artist’s work, then I’d try not to offend that artist.
Say my shot up above, for example, I’d think it pretty tacky for someone else to post it somewhere, even if I had not mentioned a copyright.
OTH the cat pictures from the past FBC are everywhere, and who knows who they orig from? So stuff like that’d be fair game I’d think.
A lot of pictures don’t.
you’ll notice that the filename contains a more detailed “copyright”.
Usually I’ve just copied pictures straight into paintshop. Would you notice a copyright doing it that way?
since I have yet to see anyone else imbed a copyright in their file name. But then it’s easy to change a file name.
I think the law is that (even for some gadget that’s you might have invented) once you’ve given it away for free, you’ve lost exclusive rights to it. I’m fairly certain this is true with inventions, but it would seem the logic would follow with art too, like photos.

I wonder if someone with more experience could enlighten us on all this. Maybe we ought to bring it up again later, if we don’t get an answer here.
Actually I think that’s an excellent idea. With so many people posting, it would be good to know exactly what is the right thing to do.
And, besides worrying about getting myself into trouble, I sometime worry if it would affect Booman.
That is be-you-tea-full NDD! You’re no slouch in the photography deptartment! I’ve yet to come up with anything that beautiful from the skies… <sigh> I’m much too grounded I guess. Such is my lot, being a dirt digger, lol.
Nice picture, good find.
and I was shooting slide film at the time, 50 Velvia, then had it scanned to digital.
NDD, I was about to go to bed, but the sun is coming up soon here and your picture inspired me a bit. It is a little cloudy in my town, but not enough to block the sun. I will hang out for a half hour or so more, just to watch the sun rise.
I’ve seen a whole lot more sunsets than sunrises, so much so that I sometimes envy the early risers.
Hope you get to view a good one.
Good for you alice.
I think that’s one of the reasons I’m a morning person. I love to see the sunrise.
Alice I’m happy you didn’t go to sleep.
Have another drink and bask in the glory of the sunrise, or something like that. 🙂
The next time Andi picks on your state for its lack of charismatic megaflora, post this picture again.
we’ll hope she doesn’t see this tip!
Actually we do have a couple of forests, the closest one (Pembina Forest) being in the very NE corner of the state.
Other than those two, and maybe the Turtle Mountain area, center of the state on Canadian border, all the natural growing trees are along rivers and creeks.

Got a link to yesterday’s tulip?
If I was standing there looking at it I’d be trying a macro shot from directly above, olivia-style.
per your request, NDD, here is the straight on shot…
Wait till the rest of the tulips get going… they’re budding like crazy now, and with the rains predicted for this weekend, it will only be a few days more!
What variety of tulip is that anyway?
BTW I think olivia’d approve…
It’s called “Olympic Flame,” and they’re just getting going today. We have about 200+ Darwins getting ready to put on their show, probably within the next week… red, yellow, purple, mixes… planted with daffodils and grape hyacinths around them… I’ll make sure you see some more, don’t worry.
photos and flowers. Olivia-stamp-of-approval offered by proxy.
That’s beautiful IVG. I’m glad you have reposted.
That’s gorgeous. And look how chatty everybody is this morning…and some still up from last night. Wow.
I feel like such a lightweight. 🙂
Oh how pretty! I envy you all with your pictures. You are great! hugs
waaay late, and I will pay for this late night indulgence, but I had so much fun staying up with you folks. I had to chuckle about the talk about signing checks up thread… I don’t even have any checks around anymore. Haven’t written one in about 3 years. Night IVG. Have a good mornings sleep. 🙂
guess I’m not quite ready for prime time. I was even disappointed when the banks quit mailing the cancelled check out. Now I just get a photo copy at reduced size no less. Purtineer need a magnifying glass to see any numbers on them.
that is I mean totally no paper
I still write checks, but most of by bills are taken care of by decuctions from my retirement, or paying by computer from my bank. I like it.
and who hasn’t gone to bed yet?
Morning Andi.
I got started a little early today. I didn’t know if you had power and the 24/7 got pretty full.
How’re ya doing this am?
I’m fine. How’s by you?
I’ll be around today until about 2:00 my time so I’ll be able to help keep an eye of the cafe until then. And we’re taking the laptop to the seder to show the family the vacation pictures so we can dial in from mom’s at some point and check.
Well I’ll be around after two so don’t worry.
But, remember I’ve been up since 2:00 am my time now so I won’t be up real late tonight.
Don’t worry about staying up. I’ll check before I leave the seder to go home which just leaves about a 90 minute period unconvered. People can survive a full cafe for awahile. I’ll go ahead and send an email to the westcoast froggybottoms to ask them to check in if they can.
Good morning, good night AndiF; wish I could have chatted wtih you tonight. I have had some fun picking on you a bit, see you next time.
I didn’t get to say goodnight.
Goodnight/morning alice. I’ll be looking forward to talking with you somemore.
since it must mean that you’re feeling 10 feet tall to be able to handle someone as scary as I am. 😉
thought Alice e and maryb would make a good FBC duo!
No, I just skimmed the other cafes looking for pictures. What if they were both to start picking on ej at the same time — he might implode.
last Wed night, and I ain’t seens any signs of life from either one of them since????????????????????
were back at it on Thursday night.
maryb’s got guests staying with her which is why she hasn’t been around since then.
all 120 pages of it. And was doing real fine at learning new stuff until a spilled grape juice over it. Quick action by MS NDD salvaged the ms however.
I did figure out how to shut off the flash for doing macro shots. And a few other things.
Amazing what you can learn reading the manuals!
I prefer just reading the manual on the computer because I can search for what I want to know — and grape juice spills much less of a problem.
printed to hard copy is actually much better than the manual that came with it, (of which I only have the Eh-spon-yole left) as that is about half paper size, so the print is harder to read.
I’m back for awhile.
What’s going on?
tank da spagetti monster yer here now to help out! I tot I vus a goner dere for a while.
I saw her trying to emasculate you. We have to stick together or these women will having us hold out our little pinky while drinking tea.
ya may want to clarify that line on the little “pinky” before 2ndN, or A-of-F gets to it.
LOL – That’s the reason I put that line there. 🙂
to do anything with it now that there’s two of us.
Assume whatever you want — I’m all for you bucking up that manhood any way you can; after all, there’s your wife’s needs to think of.
have a handle that three fingers go through, so not much danger of any pinkies gittin’ out of place.
I’m up not-so-early…drinking my coffee before yoga class, and wondering how to get my sticky space bar on my laptop to be un-sticky.
Anybody have any ideas?
Pry the space bar off. Compress and decompress the rubber piece a few times to see if they have any give left. If they don’t take the rubber pieces from keys that you don’t use very often and swap them.
How big a crowbar does one need for that?
a 1/8 in screwdriver but knowing how insecure guys are about size, I suggest you use a large wrecking bar.
LOL. You guys crack me up. Why is everyone so talky this morning?
If you check the previous cafe, you’ll find out most of them have been talky all night.
Good morning. What would you like not to talk about this morning?
I would like not to talk about these detailed (not sexual) dreams I keep having about my ex. One of the side effects of my medication is that I’m dreaming again…alot.
I can easily not talk about that. We can talk about how Jim needs a haircut really badly, knows he needs a haircut really badly, wants a haircut really badly and still can’t seem to go get a haircut (even though it is one the way home). Nah, boring.

I agree with the Seder meal SN. I think it would be a wonderful experience.
Jews are rather scarce here in the south. As are Catholics. We’re just not the ‘right’ kind of Christian.
How’s Mom doing? It sounds like you take wonderful care of her.
Oh she’s dong fine. I told her last night if it got to hot she was going over to my sister’s house to sleep. She put her foot down and said no way.

Sorry about the beach but I’m guessing having your daughter home makes anyplace feel like a beach.
She was so funny last night. She started out telling me that she had gone to a Leftover Crack concert in Charlotte when I noticed she had a few bruises on her arms. She said she was on the fringes of the mosh pit and kept her arms up as protection.

Definitely not like the concerts I used to go to.
At least the ones I remember. 😉
It’s the ones you don’t remember that could be the problem. You may have kids you don’t know about from all those Allman Bros. concerts where you got drunk before they even came onstage.
What an idea. Little Familymen and Familywomen running all around.
over the head, and then ya just cut around it with the sheep shears.
Too modern.
Where is SN when ya need her.
That line begs for her to be here. 😉
Speak of the devil and look who show up.
Morning, Family Man. Are you going to walk around in your undies today due to the heat?
We grew up without AC and when it got really hot my mom would put a bowl of ice in front of the fan and we’d all sleep on the floor trying to hog the breeze.
If I had my choice I’d walk around in the all and all, but I have family and neighbors. So it will be another hot miserable day.
How’re ya doing today?
Mr. Nature is driving down to see his parents and my daughter is home from college and being extremely adorable and disconcertingly mature. So I’m expecting a really enjoyable weekend.
Sounds like you’re going to have a good day. I’m happy.
WHy have you been up since 3:00 am? Too hot to sleep?
Actually it was 2:00 am my time and yes it was hot. It’s kind of cooled of during the night, but once I was up, I’m up.
a Johnson Bar, that ought to cover any insecurities lurking unbeknownst to me in my subconsciousness…
goodnight/morning; again. I have watched the sun rise, and the birds in my neighborhood are chirping like crazy.
Time to go to bed. I will probably get up around 2 pm today or so. Thanks again all, I had a really good time here!
is about equally spectacular with watching a sunrise.
Sleep well.
G’night alice E!
I’ll check back in a few minutes.
Actually I’ve got to do the samething.
With the AC out I’ve got to get all the cooking done for the day while it’s still cool. Plus my Mom is awake and is on a pancake kick.
So, it off to the kitchen.
