Okay, here’s a brainteaser for you. And don’t cheat by using google. Which two presidents had the shortest full four-year terms in office. To clarify, they completed a full four year term, but their four-year term was shorter than all the other presidents. If you think hard and know about one constitutional amendment, you can get the answer.
Hint: January 20th has not always been inaugural day.
Got any trivia? Think you can stump me?
Here’s a question for you: which Native American Nation seceded from the United States today?
Chippewas?
the Lakota. Insanity shall ensue in 3…2…1…
I saw that article about the Lakota, and it warmed the cockles of my heart.
Sweet. So sweet.
there goes the Dakotas for the Democrats. Nice knowing you Tim Johnson, Kent Conrad, and Byron Dorgan. Could even cost Baucus and Tester their seats.
I think the whole thing is hysterical. I just read like three different articles about this. Thisn one has some meat.
So what’s next? there is no way the US government just says “fare-thee-well” to the Sious, or more accurately the land the Sioux claim. Does the national guard move in? What happens?
They’d be stupid to send in Nat’l Guard, but then again, we are talking about the Bushistas.
National Guard, BATF, Homeland Security, ICE, prolly NORTHCOM too.
Watch them start cutting off electricity and food. Do any interstate highways/cell towers/high tension power lines run through these lands? Because if they do, you’d better believe Bush will drop the hammer and claim “vital interests of the United States”.
I knew the hint, but I don’t know the date of the amendment. I would imagine that it happened during the Gilded Age.
Here is one for you, you probably know it though. Which former U.S. President had earned himself the nickname of “Spotty” before he became president.
how about a clue?
You need a clue, he earned his nickname while in the House of Representatives.
Ford?
Nope, he earned the nickname pointing out a deception from the administration at the time which was perpetrated to start a war. He lost his seat because of it, but he was probably right.
abe
Yup another great anti-War candidate from the great state of Illinois.
Not a teaser but a question- Did reid order a pro forma fo the christmas recess?
yes.
What’s a six letter word for legume?
peanut.
When was the last time Penn State won a national championship in football?
early 1980’s. 1982?
’86, though it looks like they got hosed in ’94.
What’s the best way to dispose of chicken bones?
throw them out a second story window.
Correct! – though adding ‘into traffic’ would have been a little more descriptive.
Without using Google: Who was the wealthiest man to sign the Declaration of Independence? Surely we know the man who had the most to lose on the line – the founding-est Father of them all? What was his Faith?
Hint: he was the only signer to live to see a locomotive.
In what three presidential elections did the two major party candidates have the same first name?
(remember, no google!)
Liechtenstein and Tajikistan?
tajikistan borders china, which is not landlocked.
but liechtenstein is one.
(i asked this question once at drinking liberally. if you were part of that discussion and heard the answer, then you’re totally cheating)
also, i am assuming you’re not guessing where old zealand is.
I have no effing clue. I can’t even think of what continent it might be.
tajikistan was so close!
it’s uzbekistan, right next door (uz borders kazakstan, kyrgyzstan, tajikistan, afghanistan, and turkmenistan–all landlocked countries)
Damn. Well, I could have googled it, but I didn’t. Do I get points for that?
Which president refused to use the telephone while in office?
Hint: it wasn’t anyone that predated the telephone.
Old Zealand?
It must be a place like Holland or Belgium… where the Low Countries were (lots of soggy ground) and the water seeping in would be brackish or sea water itself. Borders change, sea levels change, but that’s my guess.
(The part that is not Jutland)
one of the landlocked countries is either lesotho or swaziland, I don’t remember which. The other is San marino. Unless you want to count the vatican, that would be three landlocked countries.
disregard…i just saw the “double landlocked”….
wtf’s wrong with obama?
h/t C&L
lTMF’sA
support wexler
oh hell no!
What is wrong with these people? No wonder I can’t decide on a candidate – they all suck!
Did anyone answer the question about the shortest full Presidential terms? I can’t find it. Wouldn’t it be FDR and/or Truman for one of the Presidents. The inaugural was only moved to January 20 after Roosevelt became President, if I recall correctly. Before then, it occurred in March. The only other President who might have had a shortened term would likely be Jefferson or Adams because of the changes made regarding the 1800 election. Just thinking.
I was wondering that, nobody ever answered the question. I’m pretty sure it was Roosevelt (3rd term started on January 20) and Washington (first term started in April I think).
