Update [2006-5-17 10:25:6 by howieinseattle]:: “Olbermann reported that special prosecutor Fitzgerald was in town yesterday for business in the Scooter Libby case and we know that the grand jury handling the CIA leak case usually meets on Wednesdays and Fridays. It’s not too big a stretch to wonder, as Keith did, if Fitzgerald will be arriving at the courthouse today for some work with the CIA leak grand jury. If so, the indictment could be handed up and announced later today (or later in the week too, I suppose.)
Of course, the wait for Fitzmas could continue and continue and continue…”-from reality-based educator.
Update [2006-5-16 21:5:51 by howieinseattle]: The Jason Leopold interview is now available on the show’s home page.
Ed Schultz just announced that (1) He believes Leopold is a good journalist and
(2) Leopold will be a guest on his show today.
The show airs until 3PM (Pacific Time) live online and on 1090AM in Seattle. Or, find a station near you.
I don’t know what happened to the other comments, but I’ve just listened to the interview. Leopold sticks by his story, says he had multiple sources, and is working on verifying that Fitzgerald was in Washington Friday (and not in Chicago, as Luskin said.) Perhaps most interesting, he said that several other news organizations–I believe he said Knight Ridder, MSNBC and ABC– each had one source on the same story (presumably that the all-day meetings took place, Rove tried to plea, the plea was rejected and he was served with an indictment) and they were all trying to get a second source.
He pointed out that his original story said that the announcement would probably be made this week, and not that it would be imminent (Monday, for example.)
He wasn’t asked about, and didn’t address the “24 hours” question that has presumably led to a lot of the controversy over the report, i.e. just what Rove having 24 hours means.
MY BAD: I inadvertently deleted the post, and the comments, as I was updating. Here’s something I posted regarding the “24 hours” question.
Yeah, I saw your post, and I still don’t understand what giving somebody 24 hours means in this context. 24 hours to do what? Surrender? Get out of town? If it meant 24 hours beginning Monday, that was over this morning.
I’m not doubting the story, just saying this is an awkward bit of it. His editors should have gotten him to clarify it. But as to the soundness of his story, I’m willing to wait and see.
same here!
It sounded pretty damned positive to me. Wasn’t discovery for Libby supposed to be completed today? Wouldn’t that perhaps be one reason why Fitz would go public with the indictment like say tomorrow? All that I can say is that I have taken Booman’s advice and I am keeping a close watch on Fitz’s website.

Fitzgerald keeps busy …
