Final Tally a Stalemate 60-60

{Update2} Kadima party just met the threshold for two mandates and shifts the final result to a tie 60-60.

According to a tally of 99.5% of the votes, the results are as follows:

    • Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu: 31
    • Yesh Atid: 19
    • Labor: 15
    • Shas: 11
    • Habayit Hayehudi: 11
    • United Torah Judaism: 7
    • Hatnua: 6
    • Meretz: 6
    • United Arab List-Taal: 5
    • Hadash: 4
    • Balad: 3
    • Kadima: 2

The results also spell one of the narrowest gaps ever noted between the Right and Center-Left blocs in the Knesset; giving the Right 60 seats and the Center-Left 52 seats. Factoring in the Arab parties’ mandates, the House could potentially be divided 60-60.

The results are expected to make it tough for Netanyahu to form a coalition. The prime minister vowed to form as broad a coalition as possible, saying that aside from the Likud’s natural partners, he considers Yesh Atid a “true partner” in government.

Update of title: Israel Exit Poll – No Clear Mandate for Netanyahu’s Coalition

{Update1} Polls will close at 03:00pm EST – I will update diary as soon as exit polls release preliminary results.

Joint Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu losing 11 seats, no real mandate for Netanyahu a 1 seat majority

Exit polls see Netanyahu re-elected as PM; Lapid huge surprise with 19 mandates: the big winner centrist-left party Yesh Atid.

(Ynet News) – According to exit polls released by Israel’s main television networks, the joint Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu ticket won 31 Knesset seats in Tuesday’s vote, while Shelly Yachimovich’s Labor Party gained 16 to 18 mandates. The rightist Habayit Hayehudi party, headed by Naftali Bennett, came in third fourth [Oui] and will have 13 or 14 representatives in the 19th Knesset, the exit polls predicted. The polls showed the rightist bloc won a combined 61 Knesset seats, while the leftist bloc won 59 mandates.

Yesh Atid ‘took back the country’

“Trailer trash has more class than the Obamas”

You voted for him America, and now you’re stuck with him.

I read the Jerusalem Post almost daily and abhor the right-wing commenters and their personal vendetta against President Barack Obama. Some of the comments come from US orthodoc jewish community. The settler crowd is unforgiving and will never shun another assassination for Eretz Israel.

May today’s election bring some wisdom to the Israeli electorate and force a change of heart to Netanyahu’s opportunistic stance versus the Palestinian people.

Jewish opponents of Chuck Hagel’s nomination would be wise to leave it to others to carry the ball

I am still hopeful for a late swing of a majority of undecided voters (15% equals to 18 seats) will vote for Labor. In recent elections where social issues are at stake, the late deciders tend to turn away from the incumbent. See also my comment below and link – Israel’s right-wing bloc drops to 63 seats, center-left rises to 57.
