A lone burst of lightening
explodes above the heated plain
deep in the searing heart of Texas
Bedazzled fireflies flitter to the rescue
Their wavering merriment quells our fear
Mosquitos swarm near camp
They strike with bold imprecision
They leave fresh wounds which will not scar
Soon they will be forgotten in winter
All they possess is our blood
our childrens blood
and a cursed future
in the lake
of fire
