With my controversial past addressed, I’d like to point to a victory, one AmericaBlog calls “huge.”
AmericaBlog reports that the National Council on Family Relations has decided to turn down $5 million from the Bush <s>cult</s> administration to build a “National Healthy Marriage Resource Center.”
The catch was the National Council on Family Relations had to agree to NOT mention gay relationships.
Now the NCFR’s own policy had been to be SUPPORTIVE of all diversities of families regardless of “race, ethnicity, culture, age, gender, religion, physical ability, country of origin, and sexual orientation.
So AmericaBlog and others, including some on the NCFR’s board had criticized the NCFR decision to write the administration’s marriage propaganda since it was to specific exclude quite a few loving families.
Now NCFR has cancelled the contract, according to AmericaBlog.
As John Aravosis writes:
This is a HUGE victory for gay families, and friends, everywhere.
I’m not sure I’d call it a huge victory, but it is a step in the right direction to show that all groups can’t be bought to support gay-hating propaganda.
But the best part might be, as John points out, the official reason for the cancellation. From the email:
A more recent development and a significant factor in the Board’s decision to exit the cooperative agreement is the government’s request that the NHMRC Website include a statement by President Bush and a picture of President and Mrs. Bush on the home page.
Seriously, they turned down $5 million just to keep from showing off Bush and his wife. Maybe they didn’t want to frighten off women from marrying because you never know, the men might end up being monstrous.
