For those caught unaware, a bit of history went down in D.C. today. Democratic Leader Senator Harry Reid invoked Rule 21:
“During a secret session, the doors of the chamber are closed, and the chamber and its galleries are cleared of all individuals except Members and those officers and employees specified in the rules or essential to the session.”
The motion by Reid, and second by Senator Dick Durbin, was not a motion that could be voted on.
Senator Reid invoked this session, and has promised to continue invoking them every day, to force the Republican Senate, led by Senator Bill Frist, to finally begin “Phase II” of investigation into the true reasons behind the War On Iraq.
It’s about damned time.
Over 2000 American service personnel, dozens of contractors, and thousands of civilians, have died in a preemptive war, begun under the auspices of intelligence we now know was wrong. Saddam Hussein had not purchased uranium from Niger, to begin a nuclear program. There WERE no Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, as President Bush told America in his State of the Union address.
The question now at hand is, was the incorrect intelligence MERELY a mistake, or did the Administration purposely mislead the country in it’s runup to war?
A great historian once said, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” We will not allow this mistake, whether intentional or not, to cost thousands of American lives EVER again. Today, Senator Frist said that Democrats, “have no conviction, they have no principles, they have no ideas.”
He is wrong.
Actions like those undertaken by Senator Reid show the conviction, the principles and the ideas that Democrats have, and those I am proud to fight to see brought to the U.S. House by Dave Bruderly.
The politics of fear will no longer hold Americans hostage. Democrats have the courage brought by their conviction that the American people deserve to know what their government does in their name. Americans deserve to know what our tax money is being spent on. Americans deserve a REAL voice in our Representatives, speaking from the throats of friends, neighbors and other constituents.
Our idea is a noble idea, a just idea and most importantly, the RIGHT idea. Dave, like Senator Reid, will not be a robot, rubberstamping the wishes of the rich and powerful Elite. He will fight EVERY DAY, for the people of North Central Florida.
The people deserve a voice. That is what the Democratic principle is. That is what the Democratic conviction is. That IS what the IDEA of Democracy, and of the Democratic Party, is.
With your help, that is what Dave Bruderly will be.
