It appears that Rep. Allen West (R-FL) finally remembered that he is a black man living in the South. Good for him. He thinks the Sanford, Florida police chief should be relieved of his duties (which he has been) and that their investigation was an outrage. Good for him. Of course, if it is an outrage, it’s not clear why he says this:
“I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.”
I guess the people descending on Sanford to protest are just “race hustlers” who are politicizing this young man’s murder. Except, last I checked, the authorities haven’t done anything to address the outrage. They’ve backpedaled and reshuffled, but they have not arrested the murderer.
Trayvon Martin is dead. His killer is still free. Until that changes, Allen West can’t be on the right side of the issue just by saying it’s an outrage. He has no right to criticize the people who are shouting and screaming.
