I guess I am a bit confused. I thought the problem with the Boy Scouts was that they discriminated against gay kids. But now I am told that the Girl Scouts promote the “homosexual lifestyle.” This is causing me to experience some cognitive dissonance. However, I suppose no War on Women would be complete without a War on Little Girls:
[Rep. Bob] Morris [ R-Fort Wayne], a state representative, added that he believes the Girl Scouts have been “subverted in the name of liberal progressive politics and the destruction of traditional American family values.”
He wasn’t kidding.
When Fort Wayne’s Journal Gazette talked to Ashley Sharp, assistant director of marketing for the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana, she didn’t seem especially fazed by the Republican’s criticisms. “It really hasn’t affected us,” Sharp said. “Our membership is still strong and our cookie sales are up from last year.”
Well, as long as this isn’t cutting into the bottom line, what’s to worry about? I mean, it’s not like the leaders of the Republican Party are talking such nonsense, right?
In his 2005 book, βIt Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good,β [Rick Santorum] lectured women who choose to work outside the home, writing that βthe purported need to provide things for their children simply provides a convenient rationalization for pursuing a gratifying career outside the home.β
What’s the over/under on how many pints of blood the GOP will hemorrhage if they nominate the Frothy One?
And, yet, I still think Romney might be even less appealing to the electorate. At least Santorum believes in something.
