And to what purpose.
Military’s Battle Against Mexican Drug Cartels Terrorizes Civilians
“I was kept blindfolded and they stripped off my clothes again and wrapped me in a blanket like a “taquito,” and they wet the blanket and connected [two] electric wires, one to each testicle. They made sure they were in place and took an instrument that sounded like a small refrigerator or a battery charger and started giving me electric shocks.
They would also sit me in a chair and cover my head with a plastic bag and close it until I almost suffocated. Then they would remove the bag and let me breath again and begin the questioning.
But Alfa is not talking about Mexico’s notorious drug lords. In his testimony to the Chihuahua Human Rights Commission, Alfa is describing being abducted by the military — the forces that are supposed to protect the civilians in President Felipe Calderón’s war against drug cartels.”

Torture in the name of the war on drugs in Mexico is torture sponsored by the United States as administered by President Barack Obama.
Obama, who is working hard to escalate and militarize the drug war on the U.S. border. Obama Militarizing Drug War Lies
Every government escalation of the war on drugs has resulted in disproportionately greater escalation and creativity by the drug gangsters in order to protect their drug prohibition mandated profits. More U.S. militarization and escalation will lead to more human rights abuses and more war.

Virginia Senator Jim Webb is sponsoring a new bill, S-714, “The National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009.”
Sen. Webb is quoted at saying that Marijuana Legalization is “On the table”
This bill needs more support of senators co-sponsoring it. Thus far 24 have co-sponsored the S-714. Consider writing to your senators and admonish them for not yet co-sponsoring S-714. I did that for one of my senators and he signed-on in less than two weeks.
Yet another thing you might consider doing if you are within transit distance of Philadelphia, PA on Saturday May 2, 2009. The annual 2009 Global Cannabis March, or Philadelphia Cannabis Festival, will be taking place on Saturday May 2, 2009. The event is still being planned, so more information will be posted as it becomes available. The GCM is an annual event that brings out hundreds of supporters, patients, and onlookers. It’s an excellent opportunity to show just how popular legalization is, and to have a lot of fun. In 2008 we had our biggest one yet with over 400 people. This year we hope to top 1,000. Check back often for updates!

If politicians see pictures of huge numbers of people willing enough to support drug policy reform that they get out in the streets to show support for reform then the politicians will become more amenable to reform. Whether or not you support public pot smoking the greater issue of reforming American drug law will be inherent in the march. Participation can increase the profile of validity for all drug policy reform.
