Inspired by bughouse canuck: Heroes, Fear, and Continuing Education

Somebody asked me the other day if I ever learn anything here. I told the truth, I learn things everywhere I go, offline or online, and most times, what I learn makes a significant contribution to my knowledge of the immensity of my ignorance.

I learned something today, thanks to  bughouse canuck, who pointed out one of those very simple truths that are in front of your face, but unnoticed. Or at least it has been unnoticed by me.

Miss Rosa Parks 1913-2005

Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks has died, Local 4 has learned.

Parks, 92, reportedly died around 7 p.m. Monday, a city source said.

Parks’ refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Ala., in 1955 landed her in jail and sparked a bus boycott that is considered the start of the modern civil rights movement.

Parks, was born on Feb. 4, 1913. She now lives in Detroit.

The Evil Legacy of the Tylenol poisoner. Some older readers may recall that there was a time when one bought a bottle of aspirin, or a jar of mustard, went home, opened it and accessed the contents. 25 years or so ago, some idiot put cyanide in some bottles of Tylenol, and since then, every damn product you buy requires you to use a blowtorch and chainsaw to get through 99 levels of seals, bubble plastic, and assorted detritus, thus giving fuel to the theory that the Tylenol poisoner was in fact a covert operative paid by the waste management industry.
