Boston Marathon suspect killed, second sought after Watertown explosions, gunfire
WATERTOWN, Mass. (WCVB News) —One suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was killed early Friday morning, while the second suspect was being sought following an attack on police officers in Watertown that involved explosives and gunfire, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said in a Twitter post.
The man known as suspect No. 2, the man seen in widely-distributed FBI surveillance photos wearing the white hat, is the suspect being sought, Davis said. Sources called the situation “fluid and dangerous.”
“This is a terrorist. He came here to kill people,” Davis said at an early morning news conference.
The two bombing suspects were chased into Watertown following the fatal shooting of an MIT Police officer and the carjacking of another person. During the pursuit, explosive devices were thrown from car by the suspects.
The suspects and police exchanged gunfire in the area of Dexter and Laurel streets.

Gunfire and explosions heard in Watertown as police descend on Dexter Street
WATERTOWN — Reports of explosions and gunfire flooded the police scanner late on Thursday night as a search for suspects in an MIT campus shooting led into Watertown near Laurel and Dexter Street. It is unclear at this point whether the two suspects who engaged police in a shootout in Watertown are related to the MIT shooting.
Police are urging everyone to stay inside of their homes. The area is considered extremely dangerous. As of 1:27 p.m., the BPD had reported that one suspect had been captured and transported to a local hospital. Another suspect remains on the loose, in what is described as a very active scene.

The NY Times reports two men engaged in a stand-off with scores of police in Watertown, Massachussetts. The men appeared to be carrying explosives in backpacks.
Witness Andrew Kitzenburg said he looked out of this third floor window to see two young men shooting at police officers. They were hiding behind a black Mercedes SUV. The officers and the men were engaged in “constant gunfire.”
The SWAT team, Cambridge, Boston and Watertown Police, as well as Homeland Security and the ATF are searching the area.
Witnesses have taken to social media, tweeting loud explosions and gunfire are rocking the neighbourhood.
