We are asking the Oregon State Board of Higher Education to rescind the PhD of American Baptist Missionary Paul W. Lewis for his research and pogrom of sterilizing Akha women in Thailand and Burma.
For a full copy of the letter, please visit www.akha.org

The Vice Provost of the University of Oregon said that they found no problem with the thesis that was the  basis of the PhD. The thesis, also available on the Akha website, describes how the sterilization pogrom against Akha women, which sterilized hundreds of them, went along.

If the PhD is not rescinded, then all the diplomas which have been issued by the State Board of Higher Education are worthless.

It also means that a PhD can be awarded for work to sterilize a specific ethnic group of women.

That would include all white PhD students at the University of Oregon, or all white staff members at the University of Oregon. Male or female. This would be following the precedent set by this PhD awarded in 1978 to Paul W. Lewis.
