As any owner of a reef tank knows, you have to vigilantly control the temperature and the pH balance or all your creatures will die. Real coral reefs are so big that they can sustain lots of localized die-offs that occur from natural variations in water temperature and acidity. But, when the water is hotter than it has ever been whole reefs can die out. I see this happening, and then I look at the condition of our politics, and I just don’t know what the fuck to do. Even if humans weren’t responsible for this, it would be in our interest to figure out how to cool the planet a couple of degrees. Wingnuts ever think about that?
