There are some rumors swirling around about a potential escalation of the Congressman-consorting-with-underage-people scandal.

Archpundit claims to have several sources, TheMadEph has another source over at Daily Kos. Without naming names, I’d like to introduce you to John Pavich, running for Congress in Illinois’ 11th Congressional District.

[John Pavich] attended Saint Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin, where he received degrees in International Studies and Russian Area Studies. During his school breaks, John worked on the family dairy farm on Forrestville, Wisconsin. After graduation, John spent several months teaching English in Lithuania, prior to enrolling in Loyola University School of Law.

After receiving his JD, John began work at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia located in The Hague, The Netherlands. While working at the Tribunal, John utilized his substantial knowledge of international legal affairs and of Balkan history. He was part of a defense team which negotiated the first plea agreement of a national leader in the history of the Tribunal. This plea is widely recognized as the first step towards a new era of reconciliation in the Balkans.

Following his work at the Tribunal, John answered his country’s post-9/11 call to service and accepted a position with the Central Intelligence Agency. At the CIA, John worked in counter terrorism in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations, earning five commendations for his work. As an officer in the agency’s Clandestine Service, John gained a unique and valuable understanding of the numerous threats facing our nation.

I had no idea we had another Directorate of Operations guy running for Congress. I think it speaks volumes that the vast majority of veterans and intelligence experts that are running for Congress, are running for Congress as Democrats. I like Pavich’s breadth of experience. It’s very impressive for such a young man.

This is a seat that is not even profiled by Larry Sabato. Charlie Cook doesn’t consider it remotely competetive. It isn’t on Chris Bowers’s radar.

The seat lies in the central part of Illinois and includes Bloomington. This is a rural part of the state. I’ve driven through it and it is a conservative area. No one was thinking that a Democrat might win this race. But Pavich has the strong kind of resume that might appeal to these voters. And if they are concerned about the war on terrorism or American diplomacy, this guy worked in counterterrorism and at the Hague. It’s hard to be more experienced than that.

Maybe nothing will come of these rumors, but I have added Pavich to the Booman Tribune ActBlue page. A contibution today may be just what he needs to prevail over a suddenly imperiled opponent. If, and when, the hammer drops I will highlight the shortcomings of the incumbent. For now, I don’t want to do that.

Regardless, Pavich would be a major improvement and deserves our support. Donate now.
