In this brave new world, this “information” world, this “You!!! Person of the Year!!!” world…we are going to get the bad along with the good. In a country obsessed with faux reality TV, with celebrities and their little faces and even smaller lives, the most grave questions are liable to be decided by trivia experts.
And you know what?
Maybe, in some broad way, they will be right.
Maybe in a cosmic sense the image does NOT lie. Maybe we see right into the souls of those whose every movement is covered from a thousand different directions.
Like a great poker player watching for tells.
Sure.
Film ALL of the candidates preparing for an appearance.

Let all who have the expertise make videos like the Hillary Clinton/1984 videa.
Let everyone see what everyone else is thinking.
Maybe all of this is just the culmination of the long ago and far away JFK/Nixon debate results, where JFK was the clear winner because he simply LOOKED better.

The best player in this kind of intimate show?
May just the best choice.
“The people” certainly cannot be trusted to choose on the issues. The evidence is clearly in regarding THAT idea.
If they ever COULD be trusted in that manner. Maybe that was what the elitism of the founding fathers was really all about.
Especially after the concentrated, corporate-sponsored effort to dumb down America over the last 70 years or so.
Hell, people…the capital city of the United States of America has a higher rate of illiteracy than does all of Cuba!!! You could look it up.

Maybe here is where the meek DO inherit the earth.
Maybe…maybe Barack Obama is the right man at the right time. A symbolic president. I mean…face it, we have survived with figurehead presidents. Ronald Reagan and our current Butcher Boy just to name two of the most recent.
Why not a symbolic one?
I have propounded a multi-racial, multi-cultural America…no, a multi-racial, multi-cultural world…for most of my life. And I have lived that idea. A white Irishman deeply involved in the only truly cross-racial/cross-cultural information system extant in America over the past 100 years save sports, for which I had only middling talent.
American music.
Call it what you will.
Jazz, Latin, Rock, Pop, Rap…
The only scene where money not only does NOT talk…at least, not during the birth and maturation phase…but “money” actually militates AGAINST success on a cultural level. Only sports in this country over the last 100 years or so has been music’s equal in that regard.
Perhaps the ONLY two functioning meritocracies left here today.
Excepting of course YouTube and the blogs. Really. No hype will suffice. Not yet anyway, although Kos is trying his ASS off.
So now, here on a political level we see a man who is racially and culturally an exact amalgam of the only two even borderline racially fair systems to have grown here in the 20th Century.
Part African, part European by ancestry.
Grew up in Hawaii, the most racially mixed place on earth in many respects. The place where Asia and the twin American racial strains of white and black flow together most naturally.
Spent some time on the street trying to reconcile his perceived blackness with his multi-racial upbringing and undoubtedly fine talents. (Blackness that was self-perceived AND perceived by others. Please. Look at him. To which side of the drinking fountain do YOU think he would have been pushed in 1952 Birmingham, Alabama? Would his jewelry of choice have been diamonds or chains in slavery times here?)
Entered predominantly white academia and excelled.
Entered the melting pot political scene of Chicago and won.
BIG time.
Quickly.
And here he is.
The Tiger Woods of politics.
The poster boy for real integration in America.
The promise of a real final solution to America’s Original Sin.
Racism.
Now…is he “for real”?
Dunno.
He’s a politician.
A master waffler.
That’s his GIG, folks.
JUST like Hillary Clinton.
So maybe it is all about image.
Maybe it is just poker.
REALLY high stakes poker.
If…as is the accepted case in poker…no one tells the truth, then who are ya gonna call. Ghostbusters?
Or are you going to LOOK AT THE CANDIDATES AND DECIDE BY EXAMINATION OF THEIR MOST PRIVATE AND MINISCULE GESTURES WHO IS FOR REAL AND WHO IS JIVING?
Accept this situation as do master poker players.
Look well and deeply into their front.
The only indubitably “true” thing about them.
Even the falsehood…the overcoiffed hair, the artfully applied makeup to hide a weak face…tells a valuable tale. Again…study with the masters.
Poker players know this. That’s how they make their living.
There IS no “truth”. Anyone who tells “the truth” all of the time is not getting much further in politics than small town selectman.
If that.
Bet on it.
But with the advent of YouTubocracy…
Hmmmm…
