Pity the cherry blossoms.

As congressional negotiators pushed last-ditch efforts to agree on a 2011 federal budget and avoid a federal closedown, the National Cherry Blossom Festival announced that its annual gala parade, scheduled for Saturday along Constitution Avenue, would be canceled in the event of a shutdown.

Even though the bleachers along Constitution are in place and some parade-goers are en route, the festival said late Wednesday that the National Park Service could not honor the group’s parade permits if a shutdown occurs.

It seems to me like Boehner has boxed himself in. It doesn’t look like the Dems are inclined to lend him even a symbolic victory at this time. It’s almost like the Sun coming up in the East. When the Republicans take control of the House with a Democrat in the White House, the government shuts down.

Also, too, when the Republicans have a two-term president in the White House, the budget deficit balloons and the economy tanks.

Do the cherry blossoms bloom if no one comes to see them?
