Maybe someone can translate these two negotiating positions into NFL terms.

Republicans are floating a wide range of major structural reforms that could be attached to the debt limit vote, including statutory spending caps, a balanced budget amendment and a two-thirds vote requirement for tax increases and debt limit increases. Liberals want a “clean” vote to raise the $14.3 trillion borrowing limit.

It would be something like, “The owners are floating a wide range of major structural reforms, like eliminating free agency, lowering the salary cap, and extending the season to 32 games. The players just want things to remain the way they are.”

Also, too, the antipode for “Republican” is not “liberal.” But Politico knows this. They just don’t care.
