As we near the end of John Kerry’s eight years in the Oval Office…what’s that?…really?…oh….
Sorry, that was the lede for an Alternate America post—the one in which the previously leaden, suddenly feisty challenger from Massachusetts came off a sizzling first debate performance to surge into the lead just a month before the election. The one in which the incumbent president, his campaign and his allies fell apart and never recovered. The one in which one debate determines the results of a presidential election.
It serves as a helpful reminder of an old political truth: The only poll that matters is the one on Election Day.
