Donald Trump has tapped New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to head up his transition team, should he win the November presidential election.
“Governor Christie is an extremely knowledgeable and loyal person with the tools and resources to put together an unparalleled Transition Team, one that will be prepared to take over the White House when we win in November. I am grateful to Governor Christie for his contributions to this movement,” Trump said in a statement.
I guess he didn’t have a lot of alternatives, but Christie isn’t exactly tied into the Republican Establishment on Capitol Hill. The last time he had any meaningful contact with them was when the House Republicans refused to send prompt aid to New Jersey in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) lit into House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Republicans Wednesday for not holding a vote on a Hurricane Sandy relief bill.
“There is only one group to blame for the continued suffering of these innocent victims: the House majority and their speaker, John Boehner,” he said. “This is not a Republican or Democratic issue. Natural disasters happen in red states and blue states and states with Democratic governors and Republican governors. We respond to innocent victims of natural disasters, not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans. Or at least we did until last night. Last night, politics was placed before oaths to serve our citizens. For me, it was disappointing and disgusting to watch.”
Boehner is gone now, but he wasn’t really responsible for that fiasco anyway. Christie will have to look to staff up an administration from a group of disgusting embarrassments. If he can’t find any House members suitable for the executive branch, maybe he can do a little better building off his relationships with governors.
For example, Gov. Paul LePage of Maine.
