If you were watching the game, of course you already know that the Cubs managed to win Game 7 of the World Series in the 10th inning. It had been 108 years since the Cubs last managed this particular accomplishment. To put that in perspective, Samuel Clemens was still alive, Al Capone was a kid and not quite yet a notorious gangster, the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary Empire both still existed, and Russia was still governed by a Czar. Of course the game itself has changed a bit over the ensuing decades and I suspect a fan from the early 20th century would barely recognize facets of the game. I know I was second guessing a few of Joe Madden’s pitching changes during this last game, but somehow it all worked out. Cleveland’s team played extremely well, and although I was rooting for the Cubs, I would not have been disappointed had they won instead. If you’re a baseball fan, this was an incredible series to watch.
