Sometimes it is hard not to laugh:

Conservative bloggers still may not carry the political clout of their liberal counterparts, but a group of Washington-based online journalists and activists has increased its influence in the past year.

One prominent example is the “Conservative Bloggers Briefing,” a weekly discussion hosted by the Heritage Foundation’s Robert Bluey.

“These meetings started out as strategy sessions for conservatives to talk about policy,” said Mr. Bluey, who co-founded the briefings about a year ago while writing for the conservative publication Human Events. “They’ve quickly evolved into a destination for members of Congress, authors and others in the movement to share their ideas with an active audience of bloggers.”

If you are a member of the Heritage Foundation then you are not a blogger. And if you are taking your marching orders from a Washington-based Think Tank, you are not a blogger and no one is going to care what you think. If the conservative movement wants to know why they are lagging behind the progressive movement in the blogosphere, it’s because their ‘bloggers’ sit around eating Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and feeling all insidery instead of telling truth to power. A real conservative blogosphere would be at the forefront of pushing Alberto Gonzales out of power…they would have insisted on justice for the intentional outing of a precious national security asset, they would be howling about Bush’s inflationary economic policy, they’d be apoplectic about the surfeit of corruption and sexual scandals within the GOP. They’d be screaming that the Republican Party is driving themselves and the country over a cliff. They’d try to do something before it is too late.

But the conservative blogopshere comes in two types. One type is funded by the right-wing wurlitzer and spits out nothing but wingnut talking points. The other type is populist, but is only concerned with demonizing Muslims and Mexicans and talking about a fictional war on Christmas.

They’re not intellectually serious people. They’re shills and racists and apologists. The left-wing blogosphere talks truth to power…truth to Democrats…everyday, all day. And that is why it is respected and respectable.
