Watching the dim feeb’s press conference yesterday, he stated that the American mission in Iraq is unfolding along two paths. The first is military. He brayed about 30 Iraqi divisions being in the lead in securing that war torn country, even as on Capitol Hill his military advisors admit that there is only one Iraqi unit that is capable of independent action. The American people have pretty much identified batshit loopy’s reality gap when it comes to describing what is obviously a raging civil war.
The second track the chimp brayed about was political. You remember the images in this string of PR victories. Iraqis cheering as the statue of Saddam tumbled. The Top Gun prez landing on the aircraft carrier and declaring victory. The “purple thumb” election success. A constitutional convention that kind of met its deadline to put out a theocratic creed. All bullshit really. But it is the only bullshit that is flying for the administration these days.
Yesterday, many of you read how the puppet government in Iraq was helping to assure the next story in the string of political victories for the Bushies. They amended the rules for counting votes in the October 15 referendum on the constitution in order to assure victory. A backroom deal that stunk to high heaven. Well, they were called on their bullshit by the UN. And guess what. They buckled. The New York Times is reporting that Iraqi lawmakers have reversed their decision to require that two thirds of all registered voters reject the constitution in three provinces to defeat the emerging theocracy. Don’t be fooled. This will ultimately be a Neo-Con PR victory. But the world is catching on. And even in the only world the Administration has left – the world of spin – their empire appears to be crumbling.
