We’ve got a little GOP disagreement:

“I believe the record speaks for itself: Don Rumsfeld is the finest secretary of Defense this nation has ever had.” -Dick Cheney, December 2006

“I think that Donald Rumsfeld will go down in history as one of the worst secretaries of Defense in history.”- John McCain, Febuary 2007

I’ve got some advice for John McCain. If he doesn’t want to get shot in the face, he better apologize to Donald Rumsfeld. Cheney makes this pretty clear in his interview with Jonathon Karl.

Karl: “You probably heard John McCain again come out and say that your friend Donald Rumsfeld is perhaps the worst secretary of defense ever. What do you make of that?”

Cheney: “I just fundamentally disagree with John. John said some nasty things about me the other day, and then next time he saw me, ran over to me and apologized. Maybe he’ll apologize to Rumsfeld.”…

…Karl: “I know we’re just about out of time, but I wanted to clarify: Senator McCain had said that the problem with President Bush is he listened to you too much. So this is what he was apologizing to you for?”

Cheney: “Yes, yes.”

Karl: “What did he say?”

Cheney: “Well, he came up to me on the floor a couple of days later, the next time I was on the floor of the Senate, said he’d been quoted out of context, and then basically offered an apology which I was happy to accept.”

But, as we wait for the verdict in Cheney’s henchman’s trial, I’d like to remind Cheney of something Jay Leno pointed out.

“Cheney now says he can’t blame the shooting on the guy who got shot. He said we tried that for three days. It didn’t work.” -Jay Leno

If McCain wants to be President he is going to have to call Cheney and Rumsfeld incompetent, including references to the ‘worst’ this or that in the history of this country. Cheney can try to blame the Iraqis, al-Qaeda, the Democrats, whomever…he’s still the guy that was responsible for our national defense on 9/11, the guy that orchestrated the false intelligence campaign to mobilize the country for war in Iraq, the guy that (with Rumsfeld) approved the war and reconstruction plans, and the guy who shot someone in the face and told an U.S. Senator to ‘go fuc*k themselves’ on the floor of the Senate.

Now…where is that verdict in the Scooter Libby trial? Faster please…
